I have two kittens. Storm is 10 months and Miss Kitty is almost 5 months. They are both on science diet, get wet food a few times a week in the morning and a bowl of dry food supplemented with a vitamin paste which is out and full at all times. They see the vet regularly and there are no issues there. Storm has learned what no means and learned that the table, counters and stove were all off limits at an early age. Miss Kitty on the other hand has not and will not learn this. You cannot turn your back on any food even while cooking for even a second or she is making off with your food. She gets in the trashcan still even though we bought one that is metal and you have to step on the bottom pedal to open the lid and she still gets in it. We have to keep or bread in a small clear rubbermaid tote or Miss Kitty will drag it down and Storm and our dog will help her eat it. I have had cats for 25 years now but have never had one that I had to watch so closely and one that was so stubborn and hard headed. Let me tell you a story...my son accidentally left the pot of spaghetti out on the table one night with the lid on it...Miss Kitty some how managed to get in with the lid back on top of the pot...I wake up see the pot there and go to pick it up realizing its quite heavy...Miss Kitty had fallen asleep in the pot after eating most of the spaghetti that was left in it. Was cute but not so funny at the time...lol! I have to find a away to deal with this bad habit as I cannot allow the cats on the places we eat and especially on the hot stove and in the hot food while cooking. Any suggestions at all on how to curb this behavior would be more than appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Heather

The problem is actually not untypically. Cats arent so easy to learn in a no. Your older cat is rather an exception!
Ie, they do understand a no, but will soon "forget"... Even our very wellbehaving boys are now and then going into the kitchen-table, even if we look on... lol.

But having a couple of forbidden places is very good. It is the easiest way to teach them who is the master, the alpha-cat, and who is not...

Did you tried with hissing? Ie cat-sounds? You must also be patient. Many times....

These hot stove and hot plates arent really so bad. The cat never does really burned, he jumps away very quickly. But this learn him her your NO is at least sometimes for real = better to listen!
The best is, YOU didnt not need to do anything nasty. The reality and experience, the life itself, will learn the cat if Ma says no, better to listen...

Do not ask me why but the first time I only saw what you quoted had to refresh...lol. Thanks for the comment. Storm is a rare example of a cat he listens and talks back even...hahaha! Miss Kitty is the total opposite and she keeps me on my toes...she is like having a baby all over again.
