We usually feed our cats 3 times a day.. but we may be planning a trip and we have someone that can come over and feed them but how often? If she came over 1 time a day would that be sufficient? And how much food should she give them.. for instance if it is once a day should she just give them the three meals for the day or would that be overfeeding them?

Thanks for the help

Can she come over in the morning and then in the evening? Two times a day and feeding a little more at those feedings would be my choice.

So great that you have someone that can feed them. Have a good vacation.

Are you feeding wet or dry? If it's wet they should be fed at least twice a day. If your friend can really only come over once a day, have her feed the wet while she's there and leave out enough dry food for them to free feed until the next day.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow until Sunday and I am just leaving down a full bowl of dry and 2 bowls of water (of course I have someone checking on her once while I'm gone ). I'm sure If your feeding dry, once a day should be fine.

I wouldn't pay mind to this since it doesn't apply to you and every situation is different.
Not sure how many kitties you have or how long you are going to be vacationing for......I would have someone morning and evening feed and change water, as well as scoop litter atleast once a day. They need interaction, whoever is kitty sitting should spend atleast an hour every day there. It is important for them to not feel abandoned and keep their feeding regiment as close as possible as well as clean litter boxes, don't leave room for unwanted behavior. A happy cat in a happy home comes from a home that makes a cat happy

Thanks for the responses guys, we would be gone for just short of a week. Since we have had the oldest cats about 6 years now we have always gave them a mixture of wet and dry food and feeding times have sort of fell into the pattern of breakfast, lunch, and dinner over the years.

They actually don't seem to overeat on their own cause there is always a little dry food left over and sometimes even wet food after a meal. But we have never really left for a long period of time and I can really only think of a few occasions where they have missed a lunch maybe or held off a breakfast until lunch.

So I am just not sure what to expect.. hopefully everything will be fine and I think it will, they are all very well behaved and mellow cats and I will see if we can work out a morning and night deal cause that does sound better than once a day.

Any more opinions/experiance/questions are more than welcome.
