For those of you who don't know or don't remember, Goldy was dumped/abandoned near my house about a year ago. When I brought her into the house she was approximately 7-8 months old and pregnant. She had her kittens on August 23 and was a wonderful mother in spite of being so young. My original plan was to keep one of the kittens and find homes for Goldy and the other two kittens. Well, you know how that goes. I had her on petfinder and craigslist and a notice up at the vet's office, but nobody ever showed any interest in her.
My main concern was that while she gets along okay with the other cats, she is somewhat intimidated by them. If somebody else starts eating her food or takes her favorite sleeping spot, she just backs away and lets them. I thought she would be happier in a home where she is the only kitty.
Fast forward to yesterday. While I was at the shelter volunteering someone came in looking for an adult cat to adopt.
Strangely enough, at the moment we have lots of kittens but only one adult. Heather spent quite a bit of time getting acquainted with Chloe, but they just didn't seem to click. I mentioned that I had a couple of cats at home who were available for adoption. We talked for a while, then Heather came to my house later to meet Goldy. She ended up taking her home yesterday afternoon.
I had loaned her a carrier to get Goldy home safely. It also gave me a reason to go to her house today to check on Goldy and get the carrier back. When I got there Goldy was hiding in the carrier. We turned the box from the litter on its side and Goldy immediately traded the carrier for the box.
Heather said her sister came over last night and Goldy came out to investigate.
So it sounds like she's going to acclimate to her new place fairly quickly.
