You can put double sided sticky tape everywhere your kitty scratches - it's a pretty good deterrent! Have you got some big cat trees for her to climb too?

If you look around the forums, you'll find some great solutions to curb furniture scratching
Oh, yes, we have plenty of trees. I live on 5 acres and they're always running up trees, but this little cat stays inside, and that's why. The other cats always chase her up the tree then I have to coax her down.

But I'll try the double sided sticky tape. Sounds like a great idea. I just bought some the other day too.

I can't spend lots of time searching for things on the computer (headaches) but I'm sure I'll run across some great advice here and it looks like there will be fun things to read.

I also have one dog and my six cats fight over him! Go figure.

Just wondering, does anyone who bought the "emery cat" have any pictures of what they actually received? I'm still wondering what you actually get when you order just the board (without the fancy "upgrade" base).

Thanks!

According to the customer service website my order is still "in process."

Do you have this style of cat tree inside? http://www.cozycatfurniture.com/cat_trees.html (or something similar?)

FYI about the emery board, the product is already available at Walmart for $18.99... In looking at it I wouldn't give much for it. I was not convinced.
Here is the best way I can describe the surface: Take the usual cardboard scratcher most of us have at home - imagine getting that, spraying only the top surface with glue, or brushing some glue in it, then quickly dipping the the top into coarse sand and letting it dry.

When my cats use their scratcher, they sink their claws deep into the honeycombs, and pull it up; in this emerycat board nothing is different inside of the honey combs - just on the top, so I really don't think i would work... not for my cats, at least...

I wont be getting this (the whole thing screams SCAM), but I have yet to try the normal honeycomb scratchers.... I think I will.

When I saw the commercial, all I could think about was "If they call that metal tooth brush a deshedder, then the board HAS to be crap!" Did anyone else notice that the 'free' deshedder is just a plain brush w/metal pins? That type of brush doesn't work any better than other regular brushes, nothing comparable to the Furminator.

The Honeycomb scratchers, IMO don't really do anything for the nails, per se, but cats do tend to love it, so they do keep them from using other things to scratch, such as furniture and etc... So IMO they are well worth it. My cats LOVE it - I like having all sorts of different scratchers, honeycombs (cardboard), sisal, carpet... The more the merrier...

Hehe, I wasn't even thinking about shortening their nails, lol, just for them to have fun with. Mine have a 5ft Amarcat cat tree, it has carpet & sisal rope. Cody doesn't use it, the other do though. He might like a honeycomb scratcher though, if not the others will. Thanks for the idea.

Of course, I live in the boonies too and we have smaller WalMarts around here. I saw this commercial the other night for the first time and thought it might be a good thing to try but now, I know to be wary - thanks everyone for your comments!
Walmart has a regular card board scratcher in the new Curve (or scroll) shape, that does not contain the emery material glued in. My cats love it.

here's Tolly modeling it (they love the one behind him, too)

Oh, THAT kind of tree, LOL. I wondered a bit if that's what you were talking about. I just didn't know what those were called.

Actually, all my cats are older now and usually they are outside. I only have one that stays inside and causes all the problems . . . but guess what . . .

Last night around 8 o'clock another cat showed up at our back door!!!!!

I can't believe this. I just got found a home for a dumped dog a few days ago. This kitty was starving so I had to feed it/her/he and put blankets outside in the shed because I can't let her inside right now. Sheesh.

Thanks for the link though!

Shame on these companies providing bogus products at a huge price.

Someone said earlier that they were not allowed to dispute the purchase. I would look into that a bit further.

I am completely familiar with being over charged by ordering stuff on tv. I actually got scammed when I tried to buy the shoe under. I got double charged. So being leery of as seen on tv adds I recently decided to try buying the Emery Cat online instead of calling the 800 number on their commercials.
I am pleased to say that the transaction went smoothly and I didn't get over charged. I purchased my Emery Cat Board from http://allthingscommercial.com/2009/12/emery-cat/
So far my cat has loved it. I don't think she knew what to do with it at first : ) but she is what we like to call "special"... LOL. Seriously though after about a day I couldn't keep her off of it. And it does seem to work on filing down her nails.

If you're looking for a cat tree - a friend turned me on to Steps for Pets (www.stepsforpets.com). Proceeds go to support a local shelter of YOUR choice. Great trees (and other stuff) at much better prices than most retail places and FREE shipping (really important when the tree weighs 70 pounds!).

I know my 3 indoor ones would never use it. I have a carpet scratching post, a sisal bottomed one, a sisal rope one and a cardboard one. My little girl Attitude(7 months old and 7 lbs) and fat cat Maude(12 lbs and 5 years old) use the carpet one. Attitude will try the rope one until her brother(Nuts 9 lbs and 7 months old) chases her off but occasionally they'll both use the rope one together. None of them use the cardboard one unless I put catnip on it and that's only because Nuts loves to eat it and gets high and goes nuts. Maude will use it as well but not like next to never she likes the carpet one. The sisal bottomed on Nuts used until I got the rope one, Attitude has used it once but she likes to scratch the bottom of them and the rope one has a wood bottom.
I knew it would be a waste to try the emery cat, Attitude and Nuts aren't thrilled to get their nails clipped but they allow it. I was scared to do it and I have got their quicks a couple times but they barely bleed and they don't complain. My boyfriend does Maude since she's his cat but she has let me do it twice, she is used to it.

The 6 outside cats use trees and railroad ties.

When I saw the commercial, I thought this wouldn't work, but my mom insisted getting the Emery Cat for my 4 month old kitten since we have leather couches in the living room and he loves to climb on them, not scratch, and leaves holes.

I was looking up reviews about the Emery Cat and came across this forum. Thank you very much for sharing your experience with it here
but it turns out that I had already filled out my billing stuff and just got to the upgrade parts when I came here. I was ordering it from the website and then when I tried to go back to see if I could cancel the order I end up with the receipt page. O_O At least the total was $39.17. That looks correct to me.

So far as of now I'm hoping to try and call them, but if I can't then I'll just see if my little kitty will like it or not XD

You can learn to trim your kitten's claws, that will help keep her from damaging the leather couch when she climbs on it.

In addition, you can get her her own furniture to climb and jump on and teach her to use that, instead of the couch for her Games.

If she or you are worried about holes in the couch and he is a strictly indoor cat use Soft Claws. They go over the claws and blunt them. I used them on Attitude and Nuts until I knew they'd use the scratching posts and stop trying to scratch at the rug, but it was mainly Attitude who did it and they never hurt it. Even Maude sometimes does that but telling them no will get them to stop.

They will blunt it enough that she won't be able to put holes in them, but honestly clipping their nails is a lot easier. I also would prefer them to have their claws usable in case they got out so they could defend themselves but I watched Attitude climb a tree wearing them on her front claws so it might not be an issue. You also might have to put them on all 4 feet though. Honestly though it's a lot faster and easier just to clip their nails.

Don't order these! I was scammed too and before I knew it I had paid for them without knowing that I would be charged $49.99 for shipping (didn't give me any option for shipping) - and also didn't indicate that it didn't come with a base, so asked if I wanted one for $10.00. So, of course I did and somehow I ended up buying 6 of these things which just arrived yesterday.
I also tried customer service, but they were conveniently closed every time I tried calling, and their web site customer service somehow had "issues" every time I went to it. These even come with a 5 year warranty that ask you to send money back with it! Now that I know they are made in China I want tot throw them out. Besides, the cats (who LOVE scratch pads) sniffed them out and decided not to pay any attention to them... Buyer beware :-)
