Hello friends,

Yup basically Oscar, my long haired baby is doing this after using his litter tray, I have saw him twice. I noticed yesterday there is a "pooh mark" on my floorboards. I have been told this means he has worms, but he is regulary wormed. I have another cat Lucy, who is short haired and haven't seen her doing this.

Should I trim the hairs around his bum? like I said he is a long haired.....I just want some input before I take him to the vet, as I am worried.

Sorry if this is a silly question, thank you all so much

I trim the hair around the bum area of my long hair cat (wrapping them in a towel helps)to keep the poop from sticking on the hair. Also you might check the area, there are glands that can stop up and a vet may need to clean it out (some vets will show you how to do it).
When these glands stop up it feels ichy to the cat and that is why they drag their bum.

I agree with clarabelle. A trip to the vet would be a good idea. When cats drag their bottom it is usually either worms, clogged anal glands, or a poop that is stuck. You can easily see a stuck poop yourself, so if you didn't see this, please take kitty to the vet.

It is not a silly question, and I agree clipping the hairs and getting a vet check is in order. The glands may need to be expressed.

Clipping the butt hair is the norm with mom's Piper - this avoids "Litter Box Butt"

Yes, do have him checked and i Hope your boy feels better soon..

My long hair kitten does the same thing when there is poop stuck. I have limited the amount of the wet food she gets and there is significantly less occurances.

I did a double take when I first saw this post before realizing it was likely posted by someone from the UK. In America, a bum is a homeless person/transient. My first thought was, wow, must be a strong cat! And the next thought was, some cats only bring home mice, this one really went for the gold!

Glad you got it figured out. I'll have to remember that one too in case Peaches ever starts dragging her "bum"!

I work with a guy from the UK and he's a hoot. I'm always looking at him like, "what the heck did you say?" And he looks at me the same way quite often! We're good office mates though and have the same sense of humor. He came in my office the other morning and I told him I saw him on TV the other night. He said, "What do you mean? I wasn't on TV." I said, "Sure you were... wasn't that you that crashed Prince Williams 21st birthday part?" OMG he howled! I couldn't resist though... just seemed like something he'd do!
