opinions? He's 3mos on the 16th...... I think his coat will even out as he ages... and for the record, I do not show my cats, doubt I ever will.... so I'm just looking for your thoughts on the patterning in this lil guys coat
I assume you mean papered? If that's the case, no he is not.Originally Posted by missymotus
Is he a pedigree? I've never seen ghost markings that dark on kittens before.
While I don't dispute that he doesn't have papers to show he's purebred, nor does it matter to me, I can say that both parents are ragdollsOriginally Posted by GoldenKitty45
Since he's not a pedigree, I suspect one parent is a classic tabby and also carrying the pointed gene. Interesting because the Ocicat was out of Aby and Siamese, and some suspect the spotting may have come from the Siamese side. Because older style Siamese sometimes have that "ghost" spotting on their bodies. I have seen one or two mixed breed pointed (like old fashioned Siamese) with ghost spotting on the sides.
Very interesting indeed.... I have never heard of this, but then honestly, I do not know about cat genetics at all. You can ask me about cornsnake genetics and I can ramble off about them, but cat genetics have never been an interest to me....I think because I don't plan on breeding them, nor do I plan on showing them at all.Originally Posted by GoldenKitty45
Many people who study genetics believe that all cats really are a tabby of some sort, and that is why you wind up with ghost spotting/stripes in solid color cats.
Makes sense to me, cause even in the wild cats you have no solid color cats - they all are tabbies - even the lion - the cubs do have spotting that blends into a solid color as an adult.
Your cat may or may not lose the ghost classic tabby markings. Would be interesting to see what happens later
The classic line, mum doesn't have papers but she is a purebred....Originally Posted by WellingtonCats
Is the person you got Kizzy off a BYB?? I too only believe that purebreds have papers otherwise it's just a "mix".
