I find myself oddly drawn to the show. But what does it represent? An unrealistic version of beauty? These women are drop dead beautiful, and they cry and cry because they are not perfect. Women rail thin are told to loose weight, then everyone gets in their face for eating disorders.
As a person who has survived an eating disorder, anorexic/ bulimeic, I still find it hard sometimes, looking at myself in the mirror and then seeing these beautiful women lamenting about how ugly they are.

I watch it as well and am strangely addicted - especially considering I dont care 2 hoots about fashion.

I don't think they cry about how ugly they are. They cry because they're young girls put into a stressful competition - we only see half of it. There's a LOT of pressure put on them, and they crack under the pressure regularly.

Sometimes they complain about how they look, but I think it goes to show that no matter how you look, you NEVER think you're perfect. Everyone has insecurities, everyone has things they wish they could change.

I think you're right Sarah. Remember that these are really young girls...some of them not even out of high school yet. Also, the nature of the modeling business is such that every little physical thing about that person is under the microscope.

Also, everything is relative. Most of us would be thrilled to look like any of these girls, and think them silly for complaining. Yet many of us complain about aspects of our lives (whether financial, or whatever) that compared to people living in true poverty, or in underdeveloped countries, our lives are pretty posh.

I do have to say, though, that ANTM seems less harsh on their weight than Make Me a Supermodel...they can be brutal on that show.

I watch it (and Make Me a Supermodel) which is weird, cause, like Sarah, I really don't give a hoot about fashion

To be honest, to me, some of these girls are not that pretty, but with the right make-up and lighting, BAM! and they do have girls that are not typical "model" sizes, the one girl, Whitney was a plus-size model, at a whopping size 10 mind you
won!
and Tocarra, another plus-size girl, started on that show and has really taken off.

Kelly, you are so right about Make Me a Supermodel, they have weekly measure and weigh-ins
The one girl, Salome, was really given a hard time about being a small and not an extra-small

Me three! I think it's the drama and the comedy that interests me more than anything...and the fact that I am so completely not a part of modern pop culture that it both fascinates and saddens me to see what young women today are into.
