Marlow likes Becky

Our stray, Marlow, who wandered to our back yard in early May, is more comfortable around my wife Becky than me. I think he still remembers me from his TNR experience. She is outside reading to him now.

This morning I took him canned food for breakfast. He can't resist the smell and comes to dive in before I can get his full serving into the bowl. As he gobbles, he hisses at me as I add more food. Too close for his liking but he never stops eating. He has never hissed at Becky even when she is in closer proximity.

Becky is thrilled that Marlow obviously likes her better. She always wanted Marlow to be her cat. I look forward to the day when he sits in her lap and accepts her love fully.

One of our indoor cats, who was feral until six months old, still likes my husband better than me. I think he remembers I was the one who initially took him to the vet. He may always like Becky better but he'll come around, especially if you remain the primary feeder.

Becky is so pleased with Marlow's attention that I am only the early morning feeder now. I usually don't have much spare time on workday mornings. Becky is thinking of camping out with him.

One of the recommendations that we make to people that are trying to socialize a feral cat is to sit on the floor and read aloud to them. Not only does it get them used to your voice, but you are very calm when you do it, which puts them more at ease. Sounds like Becky understands the boy.

Don't know if she understands. Do know she's in love.
