More Media Nonsense

CNN for one, and The San Francisco Gate for another are unbelievable.

I heard on CBC this morning that the SFGate website has a tourist warning not to visit Canada because of the garbage strike in Toronto, that there were piles and piles of garbage on the streets, the city was stinking, ad nauseum. How ignorant and uninformed are those people? That's like saying there is a garbage strike in Beverly Hills so don't visit San Francisco or Florida or Texas! Is that insane nonsense or what?

Either that or those particular reporters have never ventured outside their small little villages and have no knowledge of geography in other parts of the world except for their little town.

The media is so jacked up in this country, it is embarrassing.

Good grief, even with the garbage strike, we have more garbage laying in our streets due to all the flipping litter than you do with the strike.

That sounded so unbelievable that I decided to check it out. It looks to me like the CBC overstated it a little. Here's the link, judge for yourself.

It looks to me more like they were just posting it to make visitors aware of why this normally clean city might make an uncharacteristically filthy impression.

The whole point is that there is not garbage piling up at the curbs. The garbage is being held at specific sites set out for that purpose while the strike lasts.

To put out a tourist warning and equate it to the danger of the other travel warnings is just totally out of context and out to lunch!

The mayor of Toronto had to actually go on CNN yesterday to disabuse them of their dumb statements.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who realizes all the trash that Americans toss around-- I embarrassed my mom the other day because I couldnt resist picking up some pieces in the parking lot in Temecula at the WalMart. Sure other people were looking at me, but, hey, shame on them for not doing the same - where did the sense of community pride go
As for the media, I try to balance out what I read & hear by visiting FreeSpeech TV and WorldLink and seeing what other countries offer - very eye opening although not nearly as "sensational" and "entertaining"

I had to go to downtown Toronto yesterday and I just had to report that I didn't see any garbage on the streets. I did see one of the designated dump sites with the fence around it. The area around it was clean and tidy. Makes one wonder where the US media were getting their info.

Same place they usually do...pulled out of the air, or out of another personal orifice.

I have been watching the IRL race live in Toronto and it doesn't seem to be covered in trash. There hasn't even been any mention of the trash problem.

If one didn't have to register to leave a message with the SF Gate, I'd contact them to ask if their reporters have any international knowledge or experience whatsoever.
