My dh is taking my son to urgent care today because he got bit by a dog last night on his hand, and it's swelling. Unknown dog in a car at the supermarket, of course. Let's hope he doesn't have to get rabies shots.

Oh no! Rabies shots are the WORST (from what I've heard and seen). How did it happen? Did he stick his hand into the car to pet the dog? If so, that's the last time he ever decides to do that I'm sure!
. (sorry, just trying to add a little comic relief to a crappy situation
) I hope he is fine and nothing serious is wrong. Sending heaps of in hopes that everything goes as well as it possibly can.

Best of luck to him at urgent care!

Ha ha! Yeah, he said the dog looked all happy and was just hanging his head out of the car window, and he said "nice puppy" or something and put his hand up there and he got bitten. I told them to stress to the doctor that the dog seemed perfectly normal and happy.

for your son! How did it go at urgent care? I guess he didn't think to get the license plate number, so that the people could be contacted about the rabies shot?
that he heals fast, and no rabies shots are required.

Whew! Good news - antibiotics for 10 days, thumb splint (was on his thumb), clean with neosporin 2x a day, and go back tomorrow just for a double check.

It sounds like it will be OK.

More healing vibes are on the way.

Ouch! I remember getting bitten by a dog that it bled - dog bites can get pretty nasty! Get better soon!

I left before he got up, but he seemed quite well last night. I think it just looked really bad because it was a bit torn, instead of a clean punture, and it was all bruised. They just want the thumb splint on him because it if IS infected, it spreads a lot more quickly with movement. I didn't see the splint on him last night, though...
