my kittens are 6 weeks old now (I turn around and they're all grown up!!) and tey have discovered electricity. They love to chew on the wires behind our couch. when we notice, we pull them off, and they will go right back. after taking them away about 4 times, they stop...and head straight for the back of the couch. I think they figure that, hey! if they can't electrocute themselves, they may as well destroy our furniture. how can I stop them from chewing the wires and clawing the couch? we have a scratching post, and they use it, but they use the couch, too. help!

See my other post about time out and adjusting behavior but as far as the electrical cords are concerned, you can get tubing at Home depot for cheap and that is what I have had to do. The tubing is great for a place where there are several cords together like behind the tv or stereo. Also, as for using the couch, you can get something called "Sticky Paws" that come in strips. It is similar to large pieces of double sided tape. It is clear so they really don't see that it is there but when they go to scratch, their paws will stick to it and it freaks them out. You can also get catnip spray now to spray on your scratching post to make it seem more attractive!
