Hello! I am not a breeder but I enjoy going to cat shows to look at the beautiful breed cats. I also hope to catch a glimpse of a real Russian Blue up close because my little Zoey has Russian Blue in her and I find them fascinating. I also like to find the best toys at the cat shows especially the peacock feathers

Question, do they allow you to take pictures of the cats? I know they're funny about letting people touch them.. most dont let you. Its so hard! I just want to pet them and say hello but they must have thier reasons. But what about pictures? From your experiences should I even bother to bring my camera or what?

I love going to cat shows!!! So does my husband

I have taken my camera. Just ask permission before taking pics. One breeder was happy to have me take pics because she didn't have a digital camera and wanted me to email them to her.

Sounds good! Did they take them out of the cage for you to take pics? Sometimes no one is around the cats though.. in that case maybe I can sneak a pic?

I will definately ask permission though if I see a cat I really want a picture of.

I have only taken pics when the breeder is playing and interacting with their furbabies already, talking to people who have questions about the breed, etc basically when the breeder seems like they are wanting to show off their kitties. Not when they are rushing off to a judging or something. that way it's a natural thing to say, What an adorable kitty! May I take a pic?

I've never just taken a pic of a kitty in a cage. They don't look nearly as cute that way! But they still do look cute

Have a great time!

Now since you are going to be looking for the Russian Blues (we have a Russian
) just so's you don't get your hopes too high thinking there will be Russian Blue breeders all over the place, there usually aren't scores of Russian Blue breeders the same way there are scores of Aby or Persian breeders. It may be hard to find the handful of Russian breeders just by walking around. When you first enter the building, they usually have a map where each breeder is benched. tell someone at the front table you are looking for a Russian Blue breeder and if they could possibly help you find the location. That way you can zero in on the Russian babies and then enjoy the rest of the show without wondering where the heck they are!

Have fun!

Hehe I already emailed the head person and asked if any Russian's will be there (she said one so far, and that was 2 weeks ago). So I know there is at least one I WILL FIND IT LOL!! Most of the cat shows I go to dont seem to be THAT big.. but I'm sure a map will help me. Thanks again.. I see your kitty in your avatar.. absolutely gorgeous

*edited because I just realized someone else has that same avatar so it must not be a custom made one LOL

Actually that avatar is a picture of Nakita. Lhezzza made it for me and the site. Nakita thanks you for the compliment though!
The more I look at your pictures of Zoey, it looks like she has more Korat than Russian Blue. It's hard to tell from just seeing the pictures. Have fun at the show, I love to go!

Check this website out:

Korat Cats

Maui, check your messages - I sent you one!

Ohh see I thought that was Nakita but then I saw someone else with the same avatar so I was all
lol.

OH my GOD at the Korat! I've never even heard of that breed! Between that, the Russian and the Chartreax I'm going insane with possiblities LOL.

What do you guys think? Her eyes are bright green.. sometimes in the pics they look yellow. And her head is pretty normal shaped, normal sized ears. She does have the silver blue soft coat, the "smile", the prominent whisker holes and the green russian eyes, but her body is not lean and muscular. None of these breeds descriptions really fit her personality! lol!

She also has FAINT rings around her tail.. darker gray, and very faint dark gray stripes on upper her hind legs. You can only see it in a certain light though.

Ok this sounds like Zoey

"The Korat has a short single coat which is always silver-blue. Every blue hair has a silver tip. The hair is closelying, soft and smooth as silk. Korats are lively and very playful even as adults. They want to fully participate in they family's life. They get along with other pets as long as they get to be "number one". Korats love they humans endlessy and always find a way to make you smile. "

How do you know if they have a double coat or a single coat??

This description is taken from this website, Is My Cat a Russian Blue?

"A thick double coat. The first coat consists of the longer guard hairs. The second is the undercoat, which is very soft and gives the Russian Blue coat its unique feel. Looked at closely, these fine hairs appear wavy"

With Nakita, she has the longer 'guard hairs' that have the silver tipping as a first 'top'layer. Then, if you push the top layer aside, you will find another very soft, almost like baby hair layer underneath. That is a double coat.

When you go to the cat show, ask the Russian Blue breeder to show you. I'm sure the breeder will be more than happy to answer all your questions. Check out the Korat breeders at the show. They are also amazing looking cats!

I think I read somewhere that if you take your hand and run it through the fur against the grain on a Russian Blue it should stand up and not flatten down because of the double coat.

I like to do this on the back of my Russians head, cuz then it's sorta like Cousin It (adams family) and you're not sure which side is the top of her head and which is the bottom

Hmm
See this is weird.. Zoey has the silver tips on her coat almost everywhere except certain parts..
I am also not sure if she has a single or double coat, I will investigate when I get home. She does have bright gorgeous green eyes though.

I think she does have mauve paw pads though..pawpads

Thanks for all the links and information. I think Zoey is probly a mix of a couple of things..
I know she aint no purebred.. heh.. it doesnt matter though, I love her just the same

That is so funny!

Maui, I tried replying to your PM but your account doesn't accept private messages. You have to go into your User CP (see top of page) then choose Edit Options, and then Enable Private Messaging.

Sicycat - Make sure to take pictures and report back next week. I love to hear about people's experiences at cat shows. I have one coming up in July that I'm already excited about!

I checked and it says PMs are enabled so I don't know why it didn't accept it. . . .

. . . oh WAIT I just changed my email address this morning and needed to confirm registration, so that's probably why it got rejected. Try it again. Good thing you told me that I had a PM earlier cuz I never check

ya gotta try the Cousin It thing with Nakita.

Also when you lightly bend down my kitty's whiskers, she tries to put them back upwards and looks like she's snarling.

Hmm I am inspecting Zoey's coat LOL she's like mommy :censor::censor::censor: are you doing.
I think she has a double coat, the underneath of the top coat is really really soft baby coat.

Sicycat, where was this show? I enjoy attending cat shows as well but the nearest is Memphis and while it is well done (CFA) I would like to go to a much larger one. Hope you enjoyed yourself.

Ah, I see. Checked out Zoey's photos-what a striking cat. I need to get some of mine online. I also dropped in on your website and see you are quite the dancer, my wife has been wanting me to take that up (ballroom dancing in her case). Perhaps I should but I don't know how good I would be at it:-0!!
Again have a good time and give us a report.
