chewing things- what kind of spray can I use?

Jake likes to chew things and gnaw at wood or plastic furniture. He just lays down and puts his paws around whatever he plans on chewing and just relaxes and chews away. It looks like he has so much fun doing it. But, the dining room table has a large dent that has been chewed off and the bottom of the curtains are shredded. I am thinking of what to do to stop this behavior. I am thinking of spraying some kind of deterrent spray in places where I don't want him to chew..There are plenty of things he's allowed to chew and i won't spray those..Any suggestions for a spray?? I know some people had talked about one spray but I forgot the name, it had apple in it.

I wish I knew the answer

Henry chews up everything... lamp shades, my shoes...

Mattie loves to chew electrical cords. For the cords, we wrap them in plastic conduit.

The bitter apply spray never worked for us, and I'm not about to spray my shoes with bitter apple.

There's a flower essence remedy (by Spirit Essences) that is supposed to help with chewing.

Inappropriate chewing is a sign of some type of behavourial problem so I doubt a spray is going to stop Jake. He'll just go off and find something else to chew! I read about this in one of my cat magazines. I'll see if I can find the article and post up what they said.

My Cindy loves to chew paper - no paper is safe in my house! That was until I bought her some chew toys impregnated with catnip - now she prefers to chew on them rather than my letters and magazine
