So with 3 cats now in the house they suck the water in the Drinkwell down so quick that I am having a hard time keeping up with them. On a couple of occasions they sucked in dry overnight and I was sucked the motor was not shot in it. We have the original that is 2 1/2 years old or so.

I was over at amazon looking at my options. The biggest reservoir for the original is 70 oz so even with that I would get less than a gallon of water.

The drinkwell deluxe is 168 oz so its a little over a gallon (a gal and 40oz). And the price tag is 52 plus shipping.

The drinkwell dog version is 2.25 gallons and is 47 plus shipping.

Just getting a res. for the original is the cheaper option but does not get a lot of water. The dog version seems to be the biggest bang for my buck here.

Any opinions or what not on this.

P.S. I won't be getting it for at least another month.

My only question is the actual hight of the dog version of the Drinkwell. Is there a Petsmart or Petco near you, that you can look at one? I would be worried that the sides might be too high for cats to drink out of.

These are the dimesions for the dog one: 20.2 x 13 x 14.5 inches

Original: 11.4 x 9.1 x 7 inches

Deluxe: 15.9 x 10.6 x 10.5 inches

How much of a mess is it to fill the res. and snap it on?

I've got the original with a reservoir, and the reservoir is really easy to fill and attach. I haven't managed to dump the water yet, which was a regular occurrence with the Petmate.

don't know if this is still on, but i just got a platinum from amazon for around $40 - including free shipping. i replaced the 2 petmates w/it, so now i have 2 platinums. each hold the 168 ounces - i have 5 cats.

Arlyn I will look into that. That looks easy to clean and easy to fill up. Tho I am a bit worried of the tipping over factor.

It doesn't tip, trust me, I've had all three girls with their paws on the edge at once and my big girl is 12 pounds.

I just got the drinkwell deluxe and paid less than that on amazon (and free shipping! )... I got it after my freshflow died due to the same reasons you mention...3 cats drinking like mad.... The resorvoir is huge and it lasts me up to a week...instead of 2 days max with the 50oz resorvoir on the old freshflow. I have found it sturdy and well made...but haven't had to disassemble it yet to clean it...which I heard is a pain.
