Oop. Ack. Thpppppt.

Don't blame me, I voted for Bill and Opus.

I think I have all the books. Including, by the way, Billy and the Boingers, with the vinyl record still in place.

Strangely enough, I once worked at a little oil company where the guy I believe was the model for Steve Dallas worked. He was a friend of Breathed's, and he was the spitting image, including the eternal cigarette.

Oh, yeah, I was raised on all things Berkeley Breathed!

Here's a picture of my dad, holding my sister the night she was born- you can see Opus on his t-shirt, peeking out over her (that's me on the right): http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...&id=1486026434

And here's my sister, a few years later, dressed up as Opus for Halloween at the zoo; she took the head off to go to the bathroom and some idiot stole it! My mom made the whole costume herself!

I agree, best strip ever!

The 1980's and Bloom County were a prefect mact.

It's hard to not love Opus and Bill. Hodge Podge, Oliver and Portnoy are also favorites of mine.

So, what's in your anxiety closet?

I remember the Congressional hearings on "porn rock" when Steve changed the name of the band from "Deathtongue" to "Billy and the Boingers". Portnoy and Hodge Podge about dropped a brick. I remember one of them saying that maybe the name had some sort og vague sexual euphamism. I think it was Hodge Podge who said, "No, that would be Billy and the Diddlers." I laughed so hard.

Their first world tour was classic. It was one show- Moose Lodge banquet at a Motel 6 in Albuquerqe.

The song titles were funny, too:
I'm a boinger
U stink but I love u
Leper Messiah
Demon drooler from the sewer
Lets run over Lionel Ritchie with a tank
Pimples from Hell

I'm sure I'm missing few. There was also the time the band went caroling at Christmas.

Classic. Berk Breathed was a genius.
