I have what I think is a Northern Short-tailed Shrew in my house. It is in my basement and what I read on wikipedia is that it has poisonous saliva. It can hurt humans but wikipedia didn't say if the
poisonous saliva
could hurt or kill a cat. My cat is I think 14 years old and is a male Flame Point Himalayan and his name is Chandler. I don't know the difference shrew is male or female. The reason why is that if it was female and it had babies and I caught the shrew not knowing it had babies and the babies end up starving to death. I wouldn't forgive myself for doing that. Could someone please help?

It is true that shrews are one of the few venimous mammals (along with the duck billed platypus), but the toxin is mostly for insects and small reptiles. While a shrew bite might be painful and cause some illness, it is not likely to be fatal. In the wild cats kill and eat shrews all the time.
