I add a small amount of the arm and hammer scented baking soda to the litter when I change it and sometimes when I scoop. It works great. It's more expensive than baking soda but a box of it goes a long way.

Thankx, I now have seven cats in the house and I find myself cleaning it two or more times a day now just for the smell. It never gets to being really dirty and I use about four inches at a time. I buy exquisiCat extra strength scoop. It's only about $10.00 for 40 pounds of the stuff.

I would just caution you use it sparingly. Baking soda has a leavening agent it it, and if a cat ingests it (licks it off her paws for example) it can (in time) lower their electroylte balance and cause problems. Most clumping litters are already perfumed in the process of being made, some more heavily than others, and that bothers some cats as well.

I recently ran across a great product that works great to remove litter box odor- here is the link: It also makes an effective room freshener

For us, the Arm and Hammer Litterbox deodorizer is a necessity. It is amazing how after you clean out the "stuff" you just sprinkle a little in the litterbox and mix it up and it not only neutralizes the smell but it has a really pleasant (not laced with pee at all) smell.

The catloaf loves it, too. He seems to appreciate it greatly when I use it. One box will last quite a while, it is 2.49 here in Central NY and available in most (but not all) grocery stores, and Target, too.
