We have a four year old cat named Emma. We rescued her from the SPCA two years ago. She is a wonderful cat....very active and loving. We would like to get another cat, and probably rescue another young adult female. What are the best steps in doing this? Emma has been around other cats and my family's poodles and has done well with them but they were only there a short period of time. She was very friendly and curious even when the other cat was aggressive or didn't want anything to do with her. She loved chasing the poodles around! I think she could get along with another cat if that cat was willing but I realize personalities can clash and it might not work out. But I have high hopes for Emma to have a new best friend and would like to have another critter running around. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Mary Anne (Hissy) has written an excellent article about introducing a new cat into the household. Please click here to read the article.

Also, there are quite a few threads on this same issue. If after reading Hissy's article, you find that you want more, click on the search button at the top of the page and type in introduction or introducing and ask it to look in the Behavior Forum. This will pull up many previous discussions about introducing a new cat into the family.

Good luck!
