Celebs on screen and off

Do celebrities' off-screen personalities influence your ability to see them and like them as actors on screen?

For instance, I saw the first Transformers and I liked it fine. But since then with Shia Lebouf and Megan Fox being the latest actors with the spotlight on them I am having a hard time seeing them as not being...well, kinda freaks.

Shia had said that his mother is the sexiest woman alive, and then a while later that he got his sense of humor watching his parents have sex, smoke pot and "other hippy stuff". OK, that's just strange. Seriously odd.

Megan is gorgeous, no doubt. But she needs to just be pretty and shut up because her personality leaves a lot to be desired. She's said some really nasty and stupid things (i.e. that she would love for Megatron to destroy middle America because apparently we're all stupid or something like that).

I try really hard to separate politics and movie stars because otherwise I'd probably never see any movies. Maybe it's just because those two are in the news and gossip rags all the time right now, but they are just too...odd...for me to look past it at the moment, you know?

Oh I know! I used to be a fan of Tom Cruise.... Then after he left Nicole Kidmon (sp) I just lost intrest in him and every thing he does. (I can still watch Top Gun though! Yummy Yummy Val Kilmer ) If I don't like someone why would I pay money to go see them?

Not really. On screen they are acting a part and I'm able to separate that from what I read in the rag magazines.

If an actor was judged solely on their off screen behaviour / personality, there wouldn't be any movies or TV shows made because lets face it, most people in Hollywood tend to be kind of eclectic and/or freakish in some fashion or another.

Yes, there are some that I would never go to their movie, Sean Penn for one.

It all depends on how good of an actor they are to me. In my view, I see Tom Cruise's performances as Tom Cruise playing someone. And thus, the press he gets affects how I watch him.

On the other side of the issue, Alec Baldwin has had some terrible press and his politics border on the loony, yet he is able to put in strong performances and I forget the other while watching him.
