Today, I took a big cream guy in the "play room" for some socialization. He's an intact tom, big head and all, but he just loved to be petted, etc.

When I went to pick him up to take him back out to the front, for some reason he freaked. He did a pretty good job of clawing my left hand and may have gotten one tooth into the base of my thumb (or it may have been a claw).

I washed it out thoroughly 3 times. I'm hoping it doesn't get infected.

The poor kitty had to go into quarantine for 10 days. After that, I suspect he'll go to barn rescue. I hope they don't put him to sleep. I felt bad, but they said he was pretty iffy to start out with, and they weren't too surprised.

I know you feel bad, but at least he bit you first, rather than got adopted out and bit someone, or their kid, and got returned or set loose... Those kind of experiences come with having and caring for cats sometimes, but it does discourage some people from taking a chance on a shelter kitty.

Sending that your bite does not get infected. I got bit by my employers cat once (an Animal Hospital). It took only 4 hours for the wound to become infected. I luv cats but that cat is a real _itch. Luckilly it tuned the Vets onto the fact that something was wrong with her (she is really fat and developed joint problems that caused her pain). She had surgury but is still a _itchy mean cat.

It's infected some, I'm sure. Pretty tender to the touch, and swollen a little. I may have to make my way to the doctor's office tomorrow.

I couldn't help telling about it; the staff heard me yelp when it happened!

Well, the good news is the worst spot flared up a little. I opened it with a sterile lance and poured quite a bit of hydrogen peroxide on it, and it has now healed up pretty well. Whew!
