Cats won't eat wet food?

I bought my cats a few cans of wet food. They refuse to eat any of it. They nibbled a little when being spoon fed, but that's it. I tried everything-sprinkling cheese on it, crumbling their favorite cat treats, mixing it with dry food, heating it up, etc. Nothing seems to work. Any advice? And if it comes down to they simply not eating it, what is the most affordable grain-free dry formula?

What kind of wet are you feeding? I had a lady that owns a cat specialty store tell me a while back that almost every kitty she's ever known liked Merrick 'Grammy's Pot Pie' canned food. That's not a guarantee, but my kids LOVED it! It's just not convenient for me to buy it regularly.

As far as a low-cost grain free dry food, it seems the consensus around here is "Taste of the Wild." Might do a search on the board for that.

Good luck!

What kind of wet food is it? Shredded w/gravy or solid pate? Maybe they don't like the pate kind of wet food---or vice versa. Wet food seems like a tricky thing with some cats and it's just a matter of time and testing every brand out there. Mine are extremely picky and will only eat gravy/shredded and just Meow Mix and Fromm. Merrick is a pretty good wet shredded/gravy food (though, my kitties wouldn't touch it.. -sigh-).

I am wondering how to tell what brand of food is pate? Is there a website or something for this?

I'm considering some of the gluten-free Fancy Feasts, Felidae, and Chicken Soup.

My former stray kitten loves wet food! Are you feeding the kind that is in little chunks or the pate` variety? My girl prefers the chunk style.Your cats like the dry food though? I feed both and have had to hold back a bit on the wet food because Alley was beginning to get finicky.

It may be the food you chose, or it might be that they are addicted to the junk they put into dry food. I like this write up by Dr. Lisa Pierson about feeding a cat, and there is a link on how to switch cats from dry to wet food (scroll down the main page).

(my cats refused Merricks Grammy's Pot Pie - you never know what they will like and dislike)

My one cat will only eat one kind of wet food...Solid Gold Blended Tuna. Tuna may not be the best for cats health-wise, but hey, it's wet food. You could give this a try.
