Okay, this is really beginning to get me down. I am going to call on Monday to get Monster another appointment to be neutered and come hell or high water I am going to keep him from getting into the basement where we can't catch him! There are no doors on any of our main floor rooms except for the master bedroom and the bathroom (and yes, that means my daughter's bedroom has no doors either!). Keeping him out of the basement is going to be terrible but I need to have this stopped!

Three times now he has ruined my clothes by spraying me! I am getting very irritated!

Sorry, I don't know your backstory or how old the cat is but neutering should help stop him spraying, though it may take a while for the hormones to settle. Depending on the age you can get a hormone shot to help them stop spraying.

Maybe set him up in a large dog crate day before his appointment then transfer to a carry box the next morning so you are not trying to catch him on the day, he will feel your stress of trying to catch him.

Quite conveniently, we have one of those. I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to be able to entice him into it, but it's worth a try. He might have to go to the clinic in a dog crate rather than a cat carrier, but I'll warn them when I call.

I am hoping that if we give him some catnip we can get him to calm down enough to get him in to get him fixed. I am tired of him using me as a target for spraying, and I need to know whether or not there is a health issue that is causing the problem. I know he's scared, but it's funny: Keeper earned himself a reputation as the best behaved cat this clinic has seen in a long time. Poor Keeper... And Silly Monster!

I love all of my cats, but I can't have him continually ruining my clothes. I wish I knew why he was spraying me though! I've only ever had one cat do that before (Baloo, his dad).

Just be aware that now he has started spraying, neutering may not change that behaviour. It is always best to neuter before they start spraying and before females come into heat. Most modern vets will spay/neuter at 4 lbs so there is not excuse not to have it done at that time, especially if there are both male and females kitties running around. It may take up to 4 weeks for the male cats hormones to tone down and in that time he can still impregnate a female.

Entice? You outweigh him by about ten times at least. Put on gloves, take a beach towel or a blanket, drop it over him like a net, and stuff him in the crate. Will he like it? No. But he'll get over it; animals live in the moment.

In a state of misery w/o my Bella
My cat Joey is 6 years old, he was neutered at 8 months because that's when he came around here, and he sprays me sometimes
Basically he is obsessed with me and it got worse when we added 2 more boys to the mix
Good luck to you

If the blanket slips, this sounds like a good way to lose an eye.

It takes up to 2 months or about 8 weeks for the hormones to settle fully, until they are no longer fertile.
