What is a "Field Rep"?

Since I am unemployed, I'm saying that I work with one of my mom's friends as a Field Rep to put on Rental App's. He makes parts for the restrooms on trains.

I was thinking maybe a sales type position? Marketing?

That's one of those "all-purpose" terms, though most people probably think of marketing. Have a look through these job descriptions: Field Representative Jobs

We had a sales rep give himself the title of "Field Sales Manager" because he hated being called a rep.

He still did the same job though which was going out to see clients to get jobs in

I was a field rep for my prior company for a while. Basically I was a representative while working with our dealers at their place of business instead of our office.

Outside Sales Rep - meaning you don't work in the office - you go to the clients' places to sell/have meetings, or manage the accounts.
ETA: You will probably not have a salary, and work from commissions only; or have a draw against commissions.
