I was just wondering if it was a problem that my kitty loves to chew my hair. It is not a problem for me since it's very long, but I was just wondering:confused2 if it might make him sick if he accidentally swallows a piece.

Well, I am not sure about this one...so I am going with my gut feeling.

I would say it probably isn't such a good idea to let kitty chew on your hair. I've never heard anyone say exactly why, but I would imagine the same holds true for hair as does thread and string - and I know those are both a big no-no for cats as they can cause blockages and other digestive problems that can result in painful and invasive surgery for the cat.

Perhaps others here will have other views...

Yours,

Gaye

I havnt found it a problem if on an occasional basis. If you think of it like the haiball issue as well, too much will cause blockage and "hairballs".

I'd definitely make your cat stop if you have hairspray or some other styling product on your hair.

Jake likes to chew on my hair too. I think what happens is that cats like to chase strings, especially when hanging. The hair is the same thing.

Don't know if this helps but i was reading that cats groom us as a sign of love and affection by licking/smoothing our hair. Not sure what connection this has with actually chewing the hair (my Phoebe does it sometimes at night) but it's inetersting anyway.

Dan.
