Story here http://www.drudge.com/news/122152/se...lowing-his-mom
Exerpt: As graduate Justin Denney made his way across the stage of the civic center in Standish Maine to receive his diploma, he bowed and then blew his Mom a kiss. Immediately afterward the Principal told Denney that there was "no fooling around" and then asked him why he thought he deserved his diploma. His reply was, "Because I worked hard and I earned it." She told him "no" and that he needed to go sit down.

This has go to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard! To deny a child his diploma for showing affecion to his family??? Insane!

Absurd!

It's no wonder some kids come to hate authority; which can lead to adults that hate authority, and then...big problems.

Hell of a role model you have there, BEHS.

Boy, I hate to think what she would have done to me. I grabbed the principal and kissed him right on the mouth when he handed me my diploma.

The Principal had all the students sign a waiver that there would be no horseplay and such during comencement. I can see that, to a point, but come on!!! I guess all the students were just supposed to walk up there like sad faced stones showing no joy whatsoever.
Bet this woman is just a joy to live with.

I wouldn't call what that kid did horseplay!

Apparently other kids pulled out beach balls, and threw them. I can see how that would be very annoying, but even still - you wouldn't deny them their high school diploma!

I wonder, were they allowed to throw their caps in the air at the end? HORSEPLAY!!!! Someone could put an eye out!

My daughter Graduated last weekend. several of the kids blew kisses to their parents. One guy shouted hallelujah . One bowed. It added a little humor to the 4 hour ceremony. have a sense of humor

When we graduated in 2005 I had to sign one of those papers too. If you did't sign it you would not get your diploma either. We also did not get are actual diploma until after the ceremony.

This is just bull. I would sue!! It is not like he yelled something or flipped her off. Graduation is a right of passage give him a break for being excited!

That's how stupid graduation ceremonies are ... The school administrators during mine in 2007 were jerks about it as well... it makes me just forget about going to graduation, I mean you still get your diploma they can't deny you that no matter what, even if it means you get it after the school's lame ceremony. It wouldn't bother me! but it means a lot to some people ..

The ceremony can be almost painful to sit though, sooooo long, and if is an outdoor ceremony on a hot day, yikes. I enjoy seeing the kids who do a little something, breaks up the tedium of just listning to kids names being read off. I would have joined in batting the beachball around, (in this students comencement) screamed "Freebird!" and light a lighter! (Ok maybe not, lol)
Why make it so solemn, I don't get that at all. Yea, it will make it even longer, but your there to celebrate an accomplishment, make it fun! (within reason of course)

This is really ridiculous and I won't be surprised if the principal gets sued after hearing what the father had to say in that youtube video. We had beach balls at our high school graduation and it was fun. People stuck them in their pants wasteband under their gown to sneak them in. It was my parents that brought the air horn.
