I needs some reassurence that I am not a bad mommy! I let my indoor one-year-old black tabby outside for like five minutes with me. I made sure she stayed on the balcony and then I brought her back in. I really thought this would just scare her so she wouldn't want to go outside (she always seemed so curious about it before, so I thought I'd feed her curiousity) Well now she has been making this whining meow and pawing at the door. I regret doing this and I feel like a cruel mommy...What to do? I've tried both distracting her with her favorite games and I've also tried ignoring her...

I would put chicken wire up around your balcony and let her out. That way she will be able to see the world and stay safe. I did that once when I lived on the fourth floor in the city- my cats loved the freedom it afforded them

Thanks, Hissy! She finally stoped the cries and whines, hopefully she forgot about it. I appreciate your advise about the chicken wire. Hopefully we're going to move into a house soon and we will be able to build something safe for both of the cats to enjoy outside. The best thing I think would be a sun porch!
