Ran to the window, and stubbed it on the bed frame. The toe and the toe knuckle are a nice shade of purple swelled up, and I can't walk on the foot. I tried the walk it off thing, sooooo did not work! OW!!!!
Have no insurance for me and do know how to treat broken stuff just venting.
No good deed goes un-punished

You still did the right thing- he probably got bonded out early. I've broken my toe probably five times!! Always the same one too

What I do is place a folded up piece of gauze between the broken toe and the one next to it, and wrap it with bandage tape. Keep it wrapped for a while, I'd say a week. If you can ice it on and off for ten minutes or so several times a day, without applying ice directly to the skin, that should help with swelling. Elevation is good too.

Oh how I feel for you - I broke my toe on one of the
dog crates tonight! Same boat, no insurance & not the first time I've broken a toe.

Car to have a pity party?

You don't need insurance for a broken toe because the doc/hospital isn't going to do anything for it but maybe x-ray it and say yup, it's broke and send you home. Unless you enjoy sitting at an ER or a doc's office.
I've had all but 2 of my toes broken, and a few of them more than once. I've also had my foot smashed and had the bones replaced with part of my hip bone so I know how much a broken bone hurts.
to both of you!

Ouch!

To be honest, they don't do anything for broken toes. They will xray it and tell you it's broken and to not walk on it
They won't put a cast on the foot.

The best thing to do is apply ice to the toes to help decrease swelling. Also try to not walk on it. If you have access to crutches, try those. Otherwise just try and walk on the heel with that foot. Take both Ibuprofen and Tylenol Plain for the pain. Tylenol doesn't actually treat the pain itself. It actually alters the brain's perception of the pain. The Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and actually treats the pained area by helping to decrease swelling. So the 2 taken in combination with each other are very effective.

I've broken a bunch of toes, and it hurts like crazy!
to everyone who says there's nothing a doctor can do. Just gently tape the toes together to provide support. for a quick recovery!

Thanks! I had it taped but that was hurting too much, and the cat was just fascinated by the tape and keep head bumping it!
Sweet that she is concerned, but ouch!
Now that the swelling has stopped I will retape it, and put on a sock to stop the cat head bumps.

She also slept more snuggled up to me than usual, purring away like a little moter boat.
My good little kitty cat.

Did you actually get some sleep?

I remember when I broke one of mine, I couldn't sleep cuz it throbbed the entire night

Hope you did sleep and its feeling better. Maybe wear some shoes around the house for a few days, just to protect it?

Yes I did get some sleep, though crashing out so early I was up at 4am.

Ouch to the shoes, tried that and it hurt like the dickens! May have to go get a pair of flip flops to wear for a while!

So sorry about your toe! Like everyone else stated, there isn't much you can do for a broken toe unfortunately. Here's to a fast-healing toe

Good luck with the healing.

My sister had broken her baby toe so many times she finally had to have surgery done and a pin put in it. She's much happier now.

Sorry to hear about you're incident.
I agree with everyone who says they won't do anything for a broken toe. I broke 2 of mine a couple years ago walking down the stairs (seriously, didn't stub them, didn't trip, to this day no idea how it happened.) Anyway, after a totally sleepless night I knew for certain they were broken and went to see the doctor. He sent me for X-Rays. They said, yep, broken, gave me a shoe that was like the ones they give you when you have foot surgery and sent me home. No taping or anything like that. Hurt like the dickens for awhile and I couldn't wear regular shoes for even longer.

that you heal soon.

I'm so sorry you're in pain! I've broken lots of bones in my life (big toe among them) so I understand what you're going thru.
You mentioned getting flip flops to wear while it's still so swollen. I don't think that's a real good idea. You'll put too much pressure on your poor toe trying to hold the flip flops on. If you've got a pair of old sneakers you can cut the toe out of, that would be a better idea. You still need some support for your other toes.
Lots of healing vibes coming your way

I don't recall doing anything except putting ice on my foot which was bruised and swollen. At the time I was a full time pet sitter and could not wear a shoe and couldn't walk dogs for a week. The owner of the business was kind enough to pay me a week's pay for sitting at home with my feet up!
