"My cat ate the water bill"

So, do you guys think the local water company will buy "my cat ate the water bill" as an excuse as to why my payment is a little late this month? Actually, it was destroyed by a combination of eating and shredding via some sharp teeth and claws belonging to an otherwise very sweet, white cat named Claire. I found what was left of the water bill in pieces on the floor by the dining room table this morning. I should have known better since Claire shreds pretty much anything I leave on the table.
She's fine, though, and I have embarrassing phone call to make to request another bill. Guess I really don't need to give a reason, but I think I will just to see what kind of reaction I get.

Indeed, it will be interesting to hear their response to that explanation. I hope the person you talk to has an appreciation for the "priorities" of our critters.

it is worth a try. My son's homework was eaten by his teacher's cat.

If its the truth I would go for it. My Hubby teaches at the state college and our Binky ate the corner of some students test as it lay on his desk. "My cat ate your home work!" It was all fun. Kid had a laugh, cool student.

PS, he did well.

That's a better excuse then one I had to give in primary school - for me it was "My cat peed on my homework"

I've had muddy paw prints going across homework before, this was years ago before my trio arrived.

My RB kitty, Tigger, she wandered across it...

Since getting Danny, we've had several bills/papers end up as shredded confiti. Any paper like substance WILL get shredded if he can get to it. I once had to call the cable company to see how much a charge was. They said "Ma'am, everything should be itemized on your bill." They must have thought I was crazy when I said "Well, my cat must have thought the charge was too high..."

LOL I loved all the replies! I only had budgies growing up, so if they chewed my homework it was only tiny marks on the edge and their poop is tiny too, so I had to really do the homework.
