Hi everyone. Bit of a long one im afraid but could really do with some advice. Not sure if im posting it in the right place so apologies in advance.
Basically I have a 1 year old male called Luda who with had since 8 weeks and have recently aquired a 3 year old female called dinky co came to us very heavily pregnant and gave birth 4 days later. Mum and kittens are all doing fine (and have come out from under the sofa for any of you that remember my previous post)
We kept Dinky and Luda seperated when she initially arrived with the hope that we could introduce them later but the two (unplanned occassions they have met has not gone well at all) Dinky is currently residing in the front room with her kittens and Luda has the run of the rest of the house. A couple of weeks ago Luda made the mistake of trying to take advantage of the fact one of the kids had not pulled the door shut properly and he wandered in the front room only to be ripped to shreds by dinky (who i'd like to point out is half his size) I understand this he was in ''her'' room and she was protecting her kittens but this morning I was feeding luda and the children in the kitchen and my husband was feeding the dinky in the front room but had left the door slightly ajar and dinky flew into the kitchen and once again attacked luda who looked up briefly whilst eating his breakfast when he heard someone coming then quickly flee-ed to the garden after she started her assault.
Luda is a really good boy and totally unfazed by other cats to the point our neighbours cat will come in and eat his dinner on occassion and we often come down in the morning to find them curled up on the sofa together (he is a boy too) and luda can often be found in the garden playing with some of the local girls, which is why we thought it'd be nice to get him a companion.
I really dont want to rehome dinky again but I cant keep them seperated forever. So far she has been content to stay in but she starting to want to go out plus i have a 2 and a 3 year old that despite repeatedly being told to keep the doors shut often forget when they are playing and having fun.
My question is do you think this will get easier once the kittens are gone? Also does anyone have any tips for introducing the cats?
