Hi there,

I have a little cat name Garfy. May I know that what are the prevention I should take if I get pregnant? Is it true that if I didn't let Garfly mix with other cats or not go out from the house, then it will be no danger for me to play with Garfy when I were pregnant?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Basically the only thing you could possibly get from your cat is Toxoplasmosis, but the risk is not very high.
Most people get it from handling raw meat, not from handling their cat.

This article explains it very well.

Most important do's and don'ts are:
1. Do not clean the litterbox yourself
2. If you do need to clean it, wear gloves and/or wash you hands afterwards
3. Also wear gloves when you work in the garden (because other cats may have been there)
4. If your worried, have your blood tested for Toxoplasmosis BEFORE getting pregnant. An infection can only cause harm to the baby if you are infected during pregnancy, not if your were ever exposed at an earlier stage.

Good luck with the pregnancy.

Just curious, what is Toxoplasmosis? What does it do to you or the baby?
