Hi

To give you the background we have had our new cat Rolo for 10 days she is an unspayed 5 year old house cat that has had a little, but not much , human contact. She seems very frightened and hides most of the time in what we have made "her" room. She will sometimes respond to a stoke if she feels in the mood but won't come out with us around unless its dark. We are giving her alot of TLC but I feel its going to be a long process.

Obviously we need to get her spayed sometime(she won't get outside until then) but I am worried doing it at this early stage when she is frightened may make her worse.

Does anyone know if getting her done now may improve her mood?

Or should we let her settle fully first-I don't want her to feel worse poor thing.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I brought in a feral female last Fall and got her spayed within three weeks. She was definitely not acclimated to this place yet, but I feel it's that important. She is now more relaxed; actually the spaying calmed her down considerably.

When to spay can go either way. I hate to gain their trust, then take them to the vet, but at the same time - if you wait - she could go into heat (and if she really wants out, she'll find a way to get out). IMO, I'd spay her now.
