So, I have been contemplating when I should tell you guys....so now is the time!! I wanted to wait because I wanted to make sure things were going smoothly first........

Zack and I are in the process of adopting...no...not the furry ones. We are adopting our first child(ren)!

We've been discussing for over a year now and we decided in January to go forward with the process. For the last 5 months, we have taken our pre-certification classes and had our home study last month. We were approved as ... I suppose you can say.... "fit" to adopt last Tuesday. We just received an email from our Match Specialist this evening (the person who helps us find the right child for us) and we are meeting with them on Wednesday morning!!
This process can take several more months, but we are a lot closer than we were a few weeks ago.

Local from the state. I don't think adopting internationally is the right choice for us...there are many kids in the U.S. that need good homes too. We are also adopting an elementary age child, not a baby.

congratulations
As an adoptive Mother of 3 children all labeled hard to place children.
I am so proud of you for chosing a child not an infant
. There are so many children that need loving homes.

It's so sad that it takes so much work to prove that you're fit to be adoptive parents, but none whatsoever to do it yourself.

Congratulations on your (hopeful) adoption. I think it's a wonderful thing. I think it's even greater that you're adopting an older child because my impression is that adoptions work the same as cats - most people want kittens and the older cats often get passed over.
