Ok, in these times you have to have priorities...which do you pay...mortgage, electric, water or cable? So, we decided we could live without cable (TV, phone and internet). It didn't help that the package "deal" we got for all three doubled in price in 2 years.

But, DH figured out a way to tap into his uncle's wireless on his laptop, with his uncle's permission of course. That's not really stealing is it? I mean, if the signal is there anyone can get it, right? It's just floating out there some where.....

We've thought about running a cable across the dirt road for the TV, but that WOULD be stealing and major fines. Good news is we're getting our phone service back on Thurs with a different company, but they don't offer internet where we are.

I really want internet back on MY computer because DH's laptop is just wierd. But, the good news is the house is now clean! There's only so many games of solitaire you can play before you start to go bonkers!!

Nope, it isn't stealing if you have your uncles permission
But I would strongly recommend that your uncle have his wireless secured, as in a password, then give you guys the PW.

I don't mind sharing my wireless with certain friends, because I don't pay per MB or GB downloaded... its unlimited. I hope your uncle is like that too.

Some people pay X amount per MBs downloaded, then additional monies if they exceed that. That's one good reason to secure your wireless
because if not, anyone who can see the connection could log on and download a billion GB and then the person whose internet it was gets this huge bill and has no clue why.

Now the cable on the other hand, would be consider stealing.

Might I make a suggestion?

If you have internet, you don't really need cable.... you can watch tv on your computer
and if your laptop has s-video you can hook it up to your tv (if it has s-video) and then watch it that way. OR you could just watch it on your laptop...

That is what we do. We have internet ( job perk of hubby, free internet and long distance) and we do pay for basic cable.... but when I miss a tv show or if I'm looking to watch a movie, I hook my laptop up to my tv, and watch tv via the internet.

You really don't have to pay 2x ( internet and cable.... I'd go with just internet over cable )

(I can pm you links to tv sites and you can take a look and see what I mean bout watching tv online)

He did get the password, so that is why it's with his permission. The problem with watching anything on wireless is because we are on top of a moutain and when the wind blows, or a bird flies by, it can interrupt the signal. It's a major pain!

I really don't care right now because everything we watch are in reruns. But I can't even watch anything on YouTube.

But, I'm happy to be back! I was going into withdrawal!
