hi everyone

just wondering our female cat momo is now a year old and she went on heat for the first time ( signs i noticed -meowing more than usual and lifting her bum in the air)

we decided not to get her spayed and get her the birth control injection that lasts for three months instead incase we want to mate her some day.

we live in an apartment and there are no other cats around and she stays inside never been out other than her occasional outings to the vet.

she started peeing on our carpets and on our bed around the same time.i smelt the pee but there is no smell at all . after that i cleaned the carpets and the bed like suggested by everyone with a pet oder cleaner ( wizz carpet shampoo ) but she still seems to be going on the carpet and bed.

when i notice her sitting on the carpet about to pee i pick her up and rush her to her litter box. and yes the litter box is always clean and the vet has ruled out any urine infections.

so the question is that when females go on heat do they do this sort of thing .. non smelling pee in places even after being given the birth control injection ?

An unspayed female is much more likely to mark territory when in heat or not, IMO. This can become a habit - and she may well continue to urinate inappropriately forever.

Unless she is a very well bred purebred kitty - I suggest spaying her. There are thousands of cats & kittens euthanized every year. I just euthanized one Friday for the shelter because there aren't enough homes for them all.....and the rest of the litter may follow shortly. They are almost 8 weeks old.

Hi there - I am sorry you are going through this, and I also really hope this problem gears you to spay your kitty... so actually I am not really sorry about it... I swear, I don't want to be mean, but rephrasing what the poster above said, it's not thousands... it's millions. That is right... In the US alone, in between 3-4 million cats are euthanized every year because of "harmless" thoughts like that... 6-8 million cats and dogs... http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_d...hanized_a_year

To put that into perspective, New Zealand has 4 million people... So, imagine the whole country being euthanized... Well, if you exchange each person for one cat, that is the magnitude of it. And since NZ wouldn't be there, next year another country/state would disappear... To bring that a bit closer to home, about 1/2 of the states in the US have less than 4 million inhabitants... OR, OK, IA, MS, CT, AK, KS, UT, NV, NM... To list a few... I hope you can picture it, and unless you are a serious and knowledgeable purebred breeder, please do not add to this problem...

Cats in heat DO mark. I don't know much about the birth control injection you gave her, because it's not available in the U.S., but it may not remove all of her mating instincts like spaying would. Plus, birth control injections for humans can cause all kinds of hormonal disruption, and if it's the same for cats that might be causing extra marking. I'm not sure about the lack of odor  . Maybe it's just her body chemistry.

Hormonal cats make poor housepets. I would suggest having her spayed.

Oh, does she have a urine stop now? Oh may. Good you have veterinary help.
Hope she will be better soon!

About the 3-months birth-control shots.
I guess these are the same as are used on studs sometimes. They do work. The big problem is they have not seldom sideeffects. The place of shot get often hairless. Sometimes there may also be wounds or such. Now and then quite nasty.

update 2: momo isnt liking the fresh boiled chicken much she prefers water to it lol ! im going to keep trying with that im not giving her any dry food till this problem is sorted out and after that too i think ill use it as a treat . im also giving her yogurt in the evenings like a tea spoon of it.

shes has not peed any where since yesterday but im keeping both my eyes out on her ! every time shes near the carpets im watching closely incase i need to take her to the litter box ! im also keeping our bedroom door shut during the day .. we only go into sleep at night routine till she remembers litter boxes are for peeing and not our bed !

the 3 month conterceptive is also available in 6 month shots...since this was the first time she went on heat and the first time she was getting a shot i thought 3 months would be safer to try. btw there is no hair loss in the area till now but i guess as with human conterceptives also there must be hormonal side effects.
