furminator questions

Has anyone tried the de shedding shampoo that it's sometimes packages with? Please let me know whether it works because I can get just the furminator off of amazon and that's cheaper. Also, has anyone tried different de shedding shampoos? I've seen some at pets mart and wondering if they are effective. Jake is shedding excessively lately...
