My GGF Martin Peters was born in Hamburg in 1867. I have learned through this process not to believe anything written down, without several confirmations, but I cannot find any "official" record of his birth.
Can anyone provide assistance on where to proceed from here? Any websites?
Danke!
Cathy

There is a website I've used that has given me information on my grandparent. However I do not know the website name off the top of my head. I do get emails from them when they have new entries for either my paternal or maternal grandparents. Usually at least once/week. Shoot me a pm so I can remember to send it to you when I get my next email.

We had a family member trace our family back to the German ancestors, once he got to the German records there was almost nothing. A lot of the records were kept in churches and were destroyed in the war so finding them in almost impossible. I hope you have better luck than we did.

I'm planning on doing research of my German ancestors and I heard there was a port where the majority of people left from to America, and there are a bunch of records available. But - it's one of those things you have to go there for. :/
