This is just too sad. Koko Taylor died yesterday of complications from a surgery she had 2 weeks ago. She was 80 years old yet still performing on stage less than a month ago. I've seen her in concert more than once and just love her music. For those familiar with my cats, I named my orphaned girl Koko after her (see the black cat playing with the guitar to the right of my name - the guitar's name is "Old Blue" for the blues).

I'm bringing my Koko Taylor CD to work tomorrow and will play it all day long. She will be greatly missed.

I had a close encounter with her one time in the bathroom of a night club she was singing at. Her stall was out of toilet paper and true to protocal in any women's public bathroom, I passed her some from my stall. Of course when we were combing our hair together afterwards I got the big Koko smile and a big thanks. Call me silly but I still vividly remember that moment and that was over 20 years ago."She was still the best female blues singer in the world a month ago," said Jay Sieleman, executive director of The Blues Foundation based in Memphis. "In 1950s Chicago she was the woman singing the blues. At 80 years old she was still the queen of the blues."
