Finally managed to get a hold of someone at the local animal rescue that works on the local military bases on the island and am volunteering at an adoption fair this Saturday!

They mostly work with the American military community and try to prevent cruel disposal of pets when people are reassigned. They don't work (much) with the pet/stray population off base in the Okinawan community,I gather.

I'm hoping that this amy eventually lead me to connections with Okinawan groups who help the strays etc... around.

This is my first time volunteering for an animal rescue.

Anybody with any good advice?

I understand. It's hard. Whenever I went in the petsmart back home I always saw cats that I wanted to scoop up and take home w/ me.

No worries. I just got over a peeing on the bed phase with Aya.
I think she's the alpha cat type too, so adding another cat when you have less than 500sq. feet. apartment does not sound like a good idea to me.

Also, technically I'm not allowed pets. Aya's a contraband kitty. I wasn't hunting for a cat when I found her, but it was either take her in or leave her to die on the street.
