I've told my sister, a million times, Cammy does not like dogs. I let my friend bring her dog, Maddie inside, because I knew Maddie would not try and chase her, she's the most gentle dog. Well, Cammy is on the back of the couch and Maddie isn't even attempting to get close to her, just wagging her tail slowly, trying to be buddies. Instant puffy cat. Cammy starts growling. So Maddie has to leave without making a buddy.

Then the other day I hear these dogs barking outside, really loud, you can tell they're right outside, so I go to the window and make sure they are hurting my cats. They're practically great danes, two of them, pulling and pulling on their leashes and this little old lady on the other end!! They almost get away from her, I almost run out and grab a leash. They would kill any cat they cat a hold of! But my neighbor, who the lady is visiting grabs a leash. While this is happening I hear this growling, and think it must be arthur, right outside this window. I turn around and it's Cams.

Okay, so last night my sister texts me to see if I'm home. She comes over with Luke, her cavalier king charles spaniel. He's a good boy, but has no cat manners. He got his little nose scratched because he was messing with Gus. I told Shannon not to be mad if Cammy scratches him. Cammy sees him and tries to get past him to leave the room. HE CHASES HER around the kitchen on the counter over the fridge!
!"
Some how I manage to grab her she's hissing and scratches me, but I want to get her out of there and I put her in her room. I feel so bad I let that happen I'm almost crying. I shut her in there and my sister says "I didn't know that would happen." She feels bad and I wanted to say "I told you she is scared of dogs!" I guess she thought I hadn't tested that theory?? I don't know. But I felt so bad the rest of the night.

I'm really sad she doesn't like dogs, because I want one some day. I wonder if she would be okay if she starts out with a puppy. Maybe I'll have someone I know who gets a puppy bring it by and see how she reacts to a tiny puppy.

Oh my!! All of my cats hate puppies and they like dogs. Even my Stumpy, who absolutely adores dogs (more so than cats), didn't like when my Sam and Spike were young. Puppies get rowdy with them while adults tend to be more mellow. If she hates dogs, she'll do worse with a puppy.

Well, I was thinking, she wouldn't be scared of the puppy. I'm gonna be really sad if I can't have a puppy.

That's a good idea. The younger the better - weaned of course. Sometimes cats and dogs tolerate bringing in young kittens or puppies. It's like they know they're babies and a little on the newbie helpless end of the deal. My resident dog took right away to Maggie when I brought her home when she was a kitten and vice versa

I definitely can't get a dog until we move, but that's gonna be a few years. This apartment it too small, and I want Cammy be able to have a room where she could get away from the dog and there isn't one here, one is her room but that goes out to the patio where the puppy would potty, and the other is our bedroom and I would want them both to be allowed in there. So the puppy, if Cammy is okay with it, will have to wait. Obviously, if I bring the puppy home and she's terrified of that too, then I'm not going to get a puppy. She was here first and that wouldn't be fair at all.

Interesting thread, I'm not sure whether my cats like dogs or not, they certainly enjoy winding the neighbourhood dogs up baiting them then running to a high vantage point and watching them bark.
