One of my little ones is 5 weeks old tomorrow, and has had a goopy eye for a couple of days now. Yesterday morning is was completely shut from being crusted over. I've been cleaning it with a cotton ball soaked in warm water, and putting Puralube - veterinary lubricant - in it.

It was still goopy today and I had a look, and can't see any scratches or anything like that - I assumed she'd just had a scratch to the eyelid or something from one of her siblings. Anyway, so I think it's an infection.

I'm going to try to make an appointment to see the vet tomorrow. Does anyone know about eye infections in kittens? Is there anything else I can do in the meantime to help her?

You can by terramyacin ointment over the counter at most feed stores and try it. If it is a simple infection this usually works. If its not better in a couple of days or gets worse than he will need something stronger. This is what my vet always recommends first. Good luck!!

I had been learned, pus in the eyes especielly with kittens, asap to vet. Dont fool with any home remedies unless you know exactly what you are doing.

So, try to get the appointment already today!

You can of course try to phone the vet and ask about this terramycine ointment Lele talks about.

IF you really must wait to tomorrow, you can also try to clean the eye with salt water =1 tea spoon salt / liter water, cook up, let it be cooler to body temp -38-39 degrres, etc...

Dont do it instead of vet consultation, but may be useful if you do it waiting for the appointment time.

Be careful you dont infect the other eye from the first!

good luck!

Today's Sunday so I couldn't get an appointment today
I called the e-vet earlier and asked about terramycin, and they recommended not doing it because human strength is different to kitten strength, and you don't want to do anything that could damage the kittens eye. Not only that but given we don't know what's wrong with the eye, terramycin may do nothing except irritate it more.

I'll do salt water though, thanks Stefan
