I currently have 4 cats ranging in age 12weeks,approx 2 years,9 years and 10 years. We are moving back to the city in about 1 month and they tell me my limit is 6 cats and 3 dogs,so of course i am planning 2 more cats and 1 more dog
I can afford and have the time for all the animals plus i foster dogs.

I've currently got 4 cats and a kitten. I've often stated my personal limit is 5 but I think I can now manage 6. The most we've ever had at once has been 11 cats and even more kittens. I'll probably have heaps at the end of year, when all 3 of my girls have babies.

For me, it's two. I wouldn't want to jeapordize the quality of life for more than that..just in case I couldn't afford vet bills etc.

Right now, the four that I have are feeling like too many. Not financially, but more dealing with the litter box, (which is in my bedroom for now). It just, truely grosses me out. However, if it wasn't in the bedroom, I'd have no problem with it, but that won't happen until I move to WA in a few months.

Second, I worry about finding a place to live in Seattle with four cats. I'm lucky that where I live now, I don't have to worry about that at all. As long as I pay and care for them, it's no issue.

I'd say, considering that I have saved away money just in case anything happens and just for monthly costs, I could have 5-6 and be comfortable IF I had the space and right living arrangement.

Sorry this isn't a super thought-out response, but I just wanted to quickly contribute.

How many is too many is too subjective of a question. It depends on SO many different factors. For me, I have one kitty. 3 dogs, 2 of them big dogs. Inside pets. Plus some reptiles. Our household can only handle one Sphynx cat. But we could add another dog at some point. Everyone is different.

I love my 4 & would never trade one of them, but sometimes I do feel bad for not being able to do everything for them I might with a smaller number. For example Jordan's hematoma. While it's not bothering him, if he & Levi were my only cats I would have it fixed in a heartbeat. The problem with taking on more is that sometimes vet care decisions have to be made taking $ into account. That being said, I would never go back to having just 1 cat.

My limit is 2, but at the moment I have four, and will keep all of them for as long as they live. I have had five, but every time I get more than four, something happens to one of them. They are all rescues that would not have had a chance if I had not either taken them in from a abusive situation or right off a street. I hope they all live long lives, but as they go, I keep telling myself I will get down to two and stay there. The only thing that would make me change my mind is if a cream/yellow tabby came into my life that looked like my dear RB kitty, Fred. I could never say no to that.

I only have one right now since I just got Avalon in Feb. when she was still a baby. This is my first one so I want to start slow with this. When she has her litter, we want to keep one for sure and maybe another one. We have people who will take the others. Then we are having her spayed.

We're up to 3 that'll all eventually have to live together... boyfriend wants to adopt a dog in a few months. I'd love to have my home open to fosters of most species though.

Currently I have five .. which 6 or 7 care and love wise is my limit and also financially ... I will NOT be voluntarily adding to my family as I am not in great health and the "other" mother of two of my cats is taking the others upon my death and DOES NOT want more
so I respect that
