So I got 3 text messages from someone at 2:45 AM this morning. I start work at 7AM & by the time I'm done at both of my jobs it's somewhere between 7 - 9 PM. It was basicly asking me if I agreed with something someone else had done. It was not an emergancy. I was not a happy camper
. I personally don't feel that I should have to turn off my cell phone so this one person can text me 24 hours a day. I have a mother that needs to be able to reach me incase she has an emergancy. SO, this morning I got up & responded by saying "#1 no phone calls or texts after 9PM. I start work at 7AM....." I went on to respond to what she had asked. Her reply to me was sort of short, so my guess is she thinks I'm being mean or rude. I just know with this woman it is necessary to set a clear & absolute boundry. Anyone else ever have to do this?
P.S. I could fall asleep at my desk right now
because of coarse I was so mad I had a hard time falling back asleep.

I don't think its right to text people so early. One of my co-workers likes to text me at like 6am and it drives me nuts. One day I got a text saying roll up the rim started at Tim Hortons and another time she texted me to tell me to tell me she got a raise. That one made me especially mad because she happened to get her raise the day minimum wage went from $8.75 to $9.50 and a lot of people got raises that day.

Is it the first time she's done it? If so, you could have nicely explained what you told us. Honestly though, I've done the same thing. I don't remember the exact situation. One of my brothers friends got my number and would text me at 2:00, 3:00 in the morning. That's just not right. People should know better. And you're right, you definitely shouldn't have to turn your phone off.

no I think you were right. Some people just dont realize that not everyone can function on 3 hours of sleep...
I think anyone who gets angry at you for responding the way you did after being woken up deserves to be popped on the head! LOL!

Whats really annoying is that my bank has text alerts and they alert me for any changes in my account so when my paycheck goes through at like 3 am it decides to text me and tell me...

When my DD bought her cell phone I told her there would be one rule regarding her use of it. (I know, I know----she bought it and pays the bill every month, but she lives in my house and I pay for most of her other bills).
At midnight the cell phone gets hooked up to the charger in the dining room, not in her bedroom. If anyone has an emergency they can call our land line.

It's incredibly rude to call or text someone in the middle of the night unless you're bleeding or on fire.

I don't think you were out of line, however, I wouldn't have responded back via text message. I would have instead phoned them and explained nicely that you work long hours and that you are sleeping at 2am and that is not a good time to contact you. When you send a message, there is no voice inflection, so what you say can totally be taken out of context, which this person obviously did given the fact that you said they sounded "short" with you.

That being said, while I do now have a cell phone which I only use to call out for emergency purposes such as calling for a ride, cell phones have bred a whole new generation of totally rude... no make that ignorant... people.

Last night I was standing in line to get a coffee and the girl that was at the counter ordering was talking on the phone at the same time as she was trying to order her coffee. I wanted to reach over and rip the phone out of her hand! She eventually saw people glaring at her and told the person she would call them back, and finished placing her order.

I probably should have called her, but I was so mad this morning I just wanted to make it clear to her that it was not OK to text me in the middle of the night. I guess I was also mad because I just talked to her on Sunday about how tired I am by the end of the week, and that I don't get enough sleep because I'm so busy.

This reminds me of a time when one of the Nursing Sisters called me at 5:15am once to cover an early shift...I was fuming! We got told that as part of the rules, no phone calls for cover were to be made until at least 6am.

I told my Manager the next time I was on duty, she wasn't pleased with Sister at all...

Not out of line! Not at all. She was, though. Since when is it acceptable to ring a telephone -- whether for voice conversation or a text -- at 2:45 am??? As far as I am concerned, 9 am to 9 pm is the acceptable window, unless other acceptable times have been specifically discussed and agreed upon. 2:45 am is emergency territory, and anyone who rings my phone at that hour had better have a darned good reason.

I agree 2:45 am-what was she thinking! Anyone who would do this for a trivial question-grrrr.. Most people are sleeping during this time-just because she wasn't doesn't mean she shouldn't have common sense to text/call others.
