One of my lifelong best friends has been having a tough go of it the last few months. He's hasn't been able to work much at all because he hurt his back and has leg pain due to sciatica. A couple of days ago his doctor found that he had a blood clot in the same leg which they started treating. I just found out that he went to the ER this morning due to a pulmonary embolism. The doctors said that it was likely caused by a piece of the blood clot in his leg that had broken away. He says he's doing okay but they are going to keep him in the hospital for anywhere between 1-3 days just to be safe. I'm going to go and see him tomorrow. He's been down in the dumps the because of his back and leg, now he feels like things are just piling up on him. Hang in there, buddy, you'll be fine.

He told me to sneak him in some beers and a pizza. Uh...no.

Thank you.

Well the good news is that if he's asking for beer and pizza, he's past the serious phase. he must be feeling fairly good...

If I could sneak them past the nurse I would. I don't feel like getting beat up.

I talked to him earlier, he said he's okay but that it's hard to breathe normally. When he's around people he's fine, it's when he's home by himself is when he starts to get depressed over what has been going on. Which is perfectly understandable. I'm worried about him. I'm pretty much used to having a lot of health problems, he's been healthy his whole life until recently and it's hard on him. We've been friends for over 30 years, we're almost like brothers, I'm going to everything I can to help him get through this. I'll see him tomorrow and pass along your well wishes. I'm also going to bring him some games for his computer. He could use the distractions.

He's doing a lot better today, and he thanks all of you for your well wishes and support. He looks good and his voice is a lot stronger than it was last night. He also got up and walked around for about a half hour. They are going to keep him one more night and let him go home tomorrow. I don't know about the beer with all of the medication he's been on, but I'll certainly bring him that pizza.

Good news that he's feeling better!

It's so hard to find a great friend and I admire your help and concern for your buddy. I hope you'll keep a close eye on him when he is released from the hospital if he's still depressed.
Still sending
