We have a 10 year old neutered male and about a year ago he started meowing/crying constantly. It almost sounds like a baby crying and it is very irritating.

He constantly wants to play or be with us and it just isn't possible. Here's what we've tried to help with the situation:

- We've taken him to the vet and he got a clean bill of health.
- We've purchased new toys to keep him active and engaged with us.
- Other than playtime, we make a point to give him time with us...on our lap while we watch a movie, on the bed when we sleep, etc.
- We've just put a carpet tower on the balcony so he can get more fresh air and he loves it....but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas?

Have you had him all his life? Could there be outside stray cats or other animals lurking around causing him distress?

At his age, I am wondering if it could be feline dementia. That is neurological and wouldn't show up in a physical exam or blood work as a medical disease, like diabetes or thyroid.

Google it and see if some of his symptoms line up.

didn't show anything, you may be dealing with dementia. Hyperthyroidism can make a cat vocal, but that would show up in the tests. All my cats as they got older started the calling at all hours of the day and night. In fact now, my Buddy, is starting it. He is about 10 also. Hope this helps.
