LOL, think I posted this at the exact same moment others were posting the same info in other threads - well, at least we have it covered.

Thanks guys. I just the email myself from Pet Supplies Plus, which is
were I normally shop.
Yikes I feed Nutro Max. I will be checking that at home.
I have been using same bag for awhile and actually
split the large bag with my aunt and we have had no problems.
So I am really doubting my bag is effected.

I think it is the same owner, but Nutra Gold is their holistic alternative.

How upsetting. (I have been feeding the Max Roasted Chicken for several months now.) The fact that Nutro seems to always be involved with these pet food recalls, I think I'm plain just going to stop buying their food. There are so many other brands that don't seem to have these reoccurring issues, so why take the chance?

I had purchase the 16# bag of max cat chicken back in april but I store the food in a bin and do not have the bag. I called local petsmart and they said to bring it back and will give a instore credit. The cats didnt like it anyhow so its ok!!

Interesting. I was in Dayton, Ohio last week and while I was there Nutro was having some conference in the hotel I was staying at (Hampton Inn) and I saw posters for their cat food. I was tempted to go ask questions. Not so much anymore.

I always feed my little ones Katz n Flocken but decided to give them a different taste so I purchased a 3 lb. bag of Nutro Max. The good til date is April, 2010. The food has all been eaten. How will it affect them? What symptoms will they have if any? I can't afford to take them all to the vet at the moment. Now I am a nervous wreck!

Just read what they posted on the Nutro site. Had to calm down first.
I will be watching them all very carefully.

Yikes just wish they would be more careful!

Me too, with no way to look at the bag. Interesting, but Muddy blocked again a few weeks back. I wonder if the food affected him - he's very sensitive to certain ingredients in food.

in his case I would worry since it was a vitamin / mineral complex mix up

The vet handed me a big bag of prescription food when it happened and I stopped feeding him the Nutra Max that same day. But I've been giving it to the outdoor ferals and they aren't really eating it. I've just thrown out the rest of that food and will get them fresh food tomorrow.

If he would only go to raw - he refused chicken and has thrown up beef, regardless of its slightly cooked or not.

Of course there is a recall from NUTRO again. Even though I only buy there wet food I think I'll have to switch to something else. Way to many recalls IMO.

I'm not sure by what you mean by way too many, compared to other companies (including Evangers and other small, 'holistic' companies - and, at least as I've been reading this, Nutro discovered the issues through their own auditing system, which is now going to be even more ramped up - and initiated the recall on their own volition. Is it ever a good thing to make an error? No - but it's worse when you don't have systems in place to catch the errors, or try to cover it up. Then again, I've been feeding the formulas not included in the recall, so I'm a tad less nervous than those who were using those formulas.

Since it appears a sourced vendor made the chemical mix-up, you've got to wonder how many other manufacturers may have used that same vendor, and did not discover the problem at this point - I suspect a lot of companies started testing yesterday. Also, does anyone know how many of the readily-available premium foods are made in their own factories? I had the impression a lot of them continue (by necessity) to share facilities.

It's not a good thing, in any event - but as I'm trying to remember, other than Meow Mix and Friskies, which pet food companies have not had issues? For me, I like companies that use feeding trials for their formulas, as opposed to just reading off the list, but that's just me. But, I'll probably be at the store looking at labels again to see which companies do feeding trials and have auditing systems in place at the manufacturing site, and calling those companies before I make any switches. Luckily, I have mine in for their check-ups today and tomorrow, and can chat with the vet as well.

When I called Nutro yesterday, the customer service person told me the company that they purchase their pre-mix minerals from, TROUW Nutrition, added to much zinc and one other mineral to a batch of the mix Nutro purchases.

I was told that each batch is tested by Nutro at TROUW's site and that testing procedure, is how the error was discovered.

Apparently Nutro still uses it's own two factories to manafacture their dry food.

Well it makes me wonder why on earth they didn't catch it then before the food was manufactured.
