That bugs me, especially on this show. I haven't watched last night's show yet, but caught the very end when they listed the top 20. I recognized MAYBE 5 of them. Yet...so many people were profiled who did not make it.

The problem on this show is that they are all good dancers. On American Idol, most people can hear good singing/not so great singing (ie. if someone is off-key, awkward, etc). However, when it comes to dancing, it is really hard for the average, non-dancing person to know what is good and what is not when it comes to dancing. Therefore, personality and the shows portrayal of them gets them a loong way.

I agree. I really can't see the differences in the dance at this level. I go by the "I know what I like" theory.
If the routine gives me goosebumps or makes me cry, I think it's good!

The Wade routine didn't thrill me, although I thought the little crash test dog in the beginning was funny. It was danced well.

The last two were good, but I am sick of Melissa biting her finger.
She's the naughty ballerina...I get it.

The Broadway one wasn't very good. I didn't like the Tony/Paris hip hop that much either. I didn't think Brandon did a great job at the foxtrot.

i actually voted for Melissa and Ade a few times and I almost never vote this early

I am going to shoot Mary Murphy in the head though if she doesn't stop screaming like
banshee

I'm not a terribly big fan of Naploean and Tabitha's choreography, i like the one guy they have for hip-hop better, I think his name is Dave Scott? Also, Louis Van Amstel did awesome, esp on that samba!

I was really disappointed that Asuka and her partner (forget his name) got such a crappy routine. I hope she isn't voted off because of it. I really like her

Other than that, there were a few I liked but I don't know their names just yet.

Jeanine & Phillip: Angry Bed Dance (Hip Hop)
Thought it was great - and Phillip really shined. But I still think he may have issues when things like the Waltz show up for him.

Asuka & Vitolio: Movie Making (Broadway)
I thought the camera prop became pointless. Tyce is really a hit and miss choreographer for me and tonight was a MISS! I hope Asuka is safe because I think she is adorable.

Karla & Jonathan: Black And White Sexeh! (Cha Cha)
Where did these two come from?!?! Wow! That was really good! She is a little powerhouse too!

Randi & Evan: Blue Smoothness (Jazz)
Hotness! Evan is amazing. Honestly Randi didn't catch my attention as much as him. He is going to go far! Could be a handsomer Benji!

Paris & Tony: DJs (Hip Hop)
This seemed really frantic and honestly I think they may end up as one of the bottom 3 couples even though Paris was incredible!

Caitlin & Jason: Jai Ho! (Bollywood)
I'm totally biased because I've loved Bollywood movies since I was a little girl. Last years was a bit better in terms of transitions from the low to high elements. But wow! Caitlin! Her gymnastics was such an incredible asset to this dance. This is (IMO) the power couple!

Janette & Brandon: Astaire and Rogers (Foxtrot)
Nice, elegant, some incredible lifts, but the two of them leave me a little bleh. Maybe they are just not connecting?

Kupono & Ashley: Crash Test Dummies (Jazz)
So weird! And yet so good! They really got into the characters of the dance and seemed to connect. I likey!

Melissa & Ade: Not Mia (Contemporary)
Mandy does another fantastic routine! Sometimes I think I like her more over Mia because she is more lyrical in her choreography. Beautiful routine, Melissa was stunning!

Kayla & Max: Newbie and the Nepotism (Samba)
Woah! Kayla better watch the facial twitches. Nigel hates those. Still, she was saucy and incredible and believable. Lucky Max!

I think this is one of the best openings this show has ever had. It's hard to really place the best over the worst, but I will say that the second half of the show felt more entertaining than the first. I think that Asuka & Vitolio (okay rountine), Karla & Jonathan (who are these people - why I hate how they focus so much on certain performers and not all before the season starts), and Paris & Tony are in trouble.

My guess is that Karla and either Vitolio or Jonathan go home.

Great start though!

I love this show but don't have a favorite yet.
One yell a night is plenty Mary Murphy.

I would be happier with none! Between her and Adam last night, I just wanted to wear ear plugs and watch the dance routines without the judges yapping. My boyfriend won't even stay in the room when the show is one...he doesn't mind the dancing, but as soon as Mary starts with her yowling, he packs up and heads to the next room.

Why is this show so freaking long?!?!?!

Boom Boom Pow Routine
Thought Shane did a pretty good job. The girls were waaaaay raunchy and a few had some poorly fitting tops. I think it was Randi in particular. And while I rather love Caitlin - why so many close ups?

Special Guest Tango
Fantastic! I love this style of dance and music. It's so passionate; the face they make is so believable. Did anyone else hear strains of Roxanne in this?

The Bottom Six
I think that Asuka & Vitolio (okay rountine), Karla & Jonathan (who are these people - why I hate how they focus so much on certain performers and not all before the season starts), and Paris & Tony are in trouble.
Woah! It's rare that I was so dead on with my bottom six.

Paris: She's beautiful, but enough with the weird tutu skirts.
Tony: I thought his performance in the group number was stronger.
Asuka: I always feel sorry for ballroom dancers when they have to dance for their life - it must be so hard for them.
Vitolio: He's just so magnificent. But a definite "Who?"
Karla: What an odd song choice - like a American Idol audition stand by. Nice musicality, but some odd choreography choices.
Jonathan: OMG! Want to seem more!

Special Guest: Sean Kingston
Wasn't he a special guest last year? He's better as a record, live he is so bleh.

And The Two Going Home...
Paris and Tony. I was way off!
Not happy about the girl or the boy. Wow, I'm super surprised.

Those 2 that did the Argentine Tango were on a show earlier this year called Superstars of Dance where it was basically a worldwide competition and they won for best duo, absolutely amazing, gave me goosebumps. I love the Argentine Tango and was very excited that they had it on Dancing with the Stars this year also (can you tell I am a total dance show FREAK!!!???
) Didn't watch Sean Kingston, don't like him on the radio and like you said, DragulescuGirl, they are even worse live

I was happy with the eliminations, although I wouldn't have been said to see Asuka go either (sorry Paula!) She needs to stop with the sexy crap
I am always happy when they don't break up a partnership

Soooooooooooo, what did everyone think of last night?

I was very very disappointed in Shane Sparks' routines last night, they were bad How crappy for the dancers, but hopefully the teens and tweens who just like hip-hop and Shane Sparks from ABDC will vote because Caitlin, Jason, Kupono or Ashley do not deserve to go just because they got a bad routine

I really really really liked Brian Friedman (Kayla & Maks) and Sanya's (Ade & Melissa) routines last night, as well as the Canadian choreographer Stacey Tookey's (Karla & Jonathan) contemporary routine
these 3 were by far the best routines of the night

Louis Van Amstel's Jive (Evan & Randi) and Waltz (Asuka & Vitolio) were both good, but the Jive was a bit weird for me as it wasn't like Jives I've seen in the past where there was a lot more kicking and flicking
The waltz was good, but I didn't get the emotional pull like Mary did, Vitolio and Asuka did a great job getting into the character, but Vitolio was not very good technically

Philip and Jeanine's Tango was....uncomfortable, I didn't like it. Boo on Lil C for not knowing the correct posture for a Tango

The disco routine was AMAZING! I love Disco and that was everything a disco routine should be!
The only bad thing i can say is that they did have a bit of trouble getting Janette down from the lifts, it wasn't a smooth transition, but the lifts themselves were great- I cannot believe that Brandon has never lifted weights!

I really have no idea which couples will be in the bottom 3 tonight

I wasn't fond of the hip hop routines, either. The routine by Kayla and Max didn't affect me like it did the judges but I do agree that the disco routine was tops for the night.

I would also like to gag Mary Murphy.

If anyone needs a gag that woman does! I find it so hard to listen to her critique when she throws a scream in there!

I don't know everyone's names yet but the girls are amazing this season.

What a shock elimination last night!
I really though Janette was going to win it all.

I haven't decided who I thought would or should win, but I really thought she was great and shouldn't have been eliminated. I do like Melissa.

I wish they hadn't voted Janette off last night.
I really thought she would last much longer, too. I really loved her attitude, and her dancing was superb!

I can't choose between the guys, though...they're all so amazing!
