Jack was back on only his normal food for a week (The CN chicken and brown rice dry). Then he had another bout of diarrhea, this time I caught on sooner gave him no food for about 16 hours and went to boiled chicken and rice. Which worked like a champ.

Now I am looking for opinions on what action to take next. I am hesitant to blame his food since it took a full week for another episode? is that still a possibility?

Here are my thoughts...

1. try his food as normal one more time once I have fully (but slowly) reintroduced it.

2. try giving him something like pumpkin filling or a bit of home cooked rice every day say in the evening.

I am hesitant in general to change foods without the sort of third strike if you will. As much as I don't want another round of diarrhea I would really like to figure out what it is so I can always avoid it. (Especially since now when it happens he immediately seems to blame the litter box, and I have to stay awake and alert to keep him from using my carpets instead)

That is a whole other sad thing as a result of this... if I had figured some of this stuff out first, not let the vet do the steriod shots and what not... the first round wouldnt haave lasted 2 weeks... and it was the LAST day that he stopped using the litter box. I wish I could get some of those choices back
ok wishing is pointless.

Thoughts on my next direction? I have begun putting my ear up to his tummy on a regular basis so I can hear how active things are... Strange what behaviors this little guy can get me to adopt.

Thanks for reading this long post, and for all the help so far. I don't know what I would have done with out this site. It's exhausting!

Just to let you know, don't use pumpkin pie filling - just the plain pureed, canned pumpkin.

Is it possible for you to get a second opinion from another vet. It does seem strange that he was eating the food for a week before diarrhea set in again.

I could take him to another vet, I haven't found a good one here locally. But there was one a bit of a drive away that was really good... she helped me on the phone once too using faxed test results. To be quite honest I have no desire to put Jack in a car for over an hour, if I can avoid it... the car thing generally doesn't go well.

His regular vet was not been helpful at all, I could try yet another one... but honestly I am tired of paying vets that haven't helped at all. I think I might explode in a full on temper tantrum if I pay one more "professional" to shrug and say hrm maybe its the food? or to just try to give him a shot or hand me pills.

Sorry if I sound bitter, I know there are great vets out there... I had one until I moved, maybe I got spoiled?

Can the vet that helped you on the phone be contacted to see if she can again help you on the phone? Even though the "car thing" doesn't go very well, if it's important to his health, then it is worth the inconvenience to both of you.

I spoke with that vet again this morning (She specializes in Cats and Birds) she thinks its probably the food even though it took a week again.

She suggested that I try a different food, and that since Jack is used to dry to stay with dry. So I am going to head out today for something different.

If he develops diarrhea again she said that maybe they would give him some sort of supplement or special foods that we can use to figure out what he has a sensitivity to.

Thanks all, again. Wish us luck...
