FINALLY! She just delivered a callico about 20 minutes ago. But the placenta is still inside of her. Baby seems to be okay, and there isn't enough cord to cut. Is this okay?

Okay, I got a little more cord and was able to cut. Baby was crying nonstop and it was freaking mom out. Everything is calmer now, but still no placenta.
It should come soon.

She had #2, a solid black, at 7:45. This placenta has also not come out yet. I wonder if she ate the 1st placenta while I was typing my last note here. It was a difficult delivery. #2 is very large, and he came out hind leg and buttocks first.

#2's placenta just came out w/ baby #3, another solid black. #3's umbilical cord was already broken when it came out, and placenta is still inside (again!). #3 is doing well, screaming away!
She might have ate one with out you seeing her.
You need to watch to see if the last one comes out.

I am trying to hurry, I don't want to miss a placenta. Still no #3 placenta. #4, another calico was born at 9:10. Her cord was also already broken. No placenta. #5 was just born at 9:40, a black and white, cord still attached, no placentas. We are waiting on #3, 4, 5 placentas. Her belly is still huge, too.

Those should have come out already since kittens were born after them.

Nope, I was there the whole time. She just delivered a placenta at 10:30, and there is another starting to come out. I flushed it, because she was not interested in it. I can feel at least one more baby moving inside of her, but she is really tired. She has struggled a lot.
I hope the last kitten comes soon.
If not call the vet and tell them what is going on.

Howd it go? Everything alright?

At 12:00 she passed another placenta, but as of yet, no more babies. I am pretty sure there are two more. I can feel them, one on each side, moving, still pretty high up. Mom has not had any more contractions since she passed that last placenta. If there is nothing by 2:00, I am going to call the emergency vet.
I have to ask, were those kittens still held by the umbillical cord when the ones after were born? because if not you must have missed a placenta somewhere. Only placental twins, which I believe are rare in cats are born cat, cat placenta (they are also not necessarily identical in color and markings). Every other birth I've ever watched for the rescue was cat, placenta, cat, placenta.

How are mom and babies? did you have to go to the e-vet?

Hope everythings ok xx

Everything is okay now, though I am so tired. At 2:00, she passsed another placenta, and at 2:30, she had #6, a black and white. Placenta followed closly behind, thankfully. I could still feel one more, but by 3:30 AM I was exhausted, and fell asleep beside her. I woke in a panic to find #7 had been born, solid black, and was mostly dry, and mom was eating the placenta. Mom is skinny now, I think we are all done. WHEW! Thank you for all of your support, you guys. I'll get some pics up after I take a nap!

Meh, call me when you have 6 XL dog crates with 34 cat between them (can you tell it's stray kitten season?)

Glad to hear that everyone is present and accounted for. Can't wait for the photos!

if she's still in labor and it's been more than a hand full of hours since the last kitten (like more than 5 hours) the likelyhood of the kitten being born alive is drastically decreased. I would recommend a trip to the e-vet to be sure it's not dead if it hasn't passed already and to x-ray for any other dead featuses who may be there.

P.s My kittens range in age from a month old to 12 weeks, some of the older ones are big enough to be altered but need a few more weeks for rabies shot so they can't go up for adoption yet.

False alarm. Man, was I sleep deprived! The previous night I only slept 3 hours, and last night, only about 2. The #8 baby was actually her very engorged breasts on her left side. Whew!
Now I have another question. When Sadie had her babies on Thursday night, she barely bled at all, and her genitals shrank right back down. (She is also a lot smaller than Mao and had a smaller litter of smaller babies). Mao has more bleeding but it's not a worrisome amount or color, but her genitals look very stretched out, flappy, and swollen. Her babies were very large-all 7 of them were, and a few came out in weird angles. The vet said as long as there isn't bright red blood, or large amounts of blood, and as long as she seems to be doing okay and taking care of the babies then there is no worry. He does want me to bring mom and babies in at 2 weeks. Okay, my question- do mama cats ever tear during the birthing process the way humans do? Do they heal on their own?

Another question.
since I am new to the whole baby process, when do we start worming and vaccinations? How old do they need to be when they are spayed/neutered? ALL of them will be spayed/neutered before they go to their new homes, and I plan on asking for a donation. I have found homes for 7 already
post #27 of 37
Congrats on the Kttens.
They should ge their first shots between 6-8 weeks.
Worming should be around the same time.
I would have them fixed 10-14 day before they go to thier new homes.
Also wait until they are 14 week before you let them go.
Glad it was just a false alarm. It is normal for her to heal at her own rate and yes they can tear, usually from breech birth or large kittens (both of which you seem to have)

The rescue I work with will alter them at around 12-14 weeks old or two lbs. however I have some 3 lb 10 week olds... it's pointless for me to do because they can't get the rabies shot that young.

<3 can't wait for photos.

Congrats- that's allloooot of kittens!
