I got Jake back yesterday evening, he was staying with my boyfriend for about 13 days while I was away visiting family...
He's acting really strange like he doesn't remember me. He is nervous as I make rapid movements, he's never done that before. Yesterday when I took him out of the carrier at home he was acting so crazy- he was running, playing with random things but the play was really aggressive and he looked like he was scared as he was chasing things around..Now he's a little better- I woke up with him on top of his cat tree which is next to my bed and he looked at me while I stretched out to pet him and he purred for the first time since I got back. But he's still not the same- he doesn't do any of his usual things such as while hearing a noise coming from another room, going up to the door and meowing...Does anyone have any experiences with returning home to your cats and having to socialize with them from scratch?? This is weird for me because I've had Jake since 4-5 weeks old and I can't believe he may not remember me
Is that really why he's acting weird? Any info on cat memory will be helpful so if anyone knows anything let me know...

PS: He's gotten huge, tail gotten fluffier I will post pics soon. I can't believe he's grown so much in just 13 days. He is now 7 months old

I think he's just experiencing what cats feel when they go to a new environment. He's really young and 13 days are a long time when you're young! Remember waiting for Christmas as a kid? 13 days might have been a year. Now it's like, "Ah! There's only 13 days left to..." You get my point. I bet he's back to normal in a day or two.

Yah, thats happened to me. he'll be back to normal in no time. Just resume your normal activities and he will be okay. I am glad you are home though. he sounds like he missed home.

Thanks! He is slowly returning to normal. He followed me around the house today which is what he usually does and it made me really happy. He's already getting into trouble- he's gotten so much stronger while I was away and knocks things down and throws them like a hurricane, real loud too...
Man i'm glad I'm back!!! I missed Jake so much that I thought he'd come up to me and purr and stay with me, so I was a little put off by how he was acting but I'm sure it's all just normal, he's a cat after all and doesn't have all of our human emotions..

Yikes, cut him some slack. You're his 'meowmy' and he didn't see you for two weeks. My fosters hide in the bathroom every time we get back from adoption events at the PetSmart. Being away from home can be scary for them, even if they're being cared for properly.
