Hi everyone, I was wondering if you all that have had pregnant cats before could help me out. I picked up a foster cat today from a shelter who gave birth approximately three days ago. She was found with one kitten who was almost dead at that point (no surviving). She's in really bad shape, very unhealthy and full of parasites. At this point, she is still bleeding a bit...not very much, that I can tell, it's more like bloody discharge. The vet said that she does not feel any more kittens inside of her. Because she is so unhealthy and has infections everywhere else (eyes, URI, skin), I'm worried that she has developed a uterine infection. Does anyone have any ideas on the possibilities for the bleeding? She's still at the vet and being treated with antibiotics, etc., but I am still concerned.

As she is treated with antibiotics, it should take care of a uterine infection.
Some bloody discharges (=red coloured fluid) is quite common. Fresh blood is of course not so good.

I understand she is in a bad shape. A shape homeless cats do die of. Even homecats can die of. But she is getting now professional help - better then most cats. Lets pray and hope for the best.

Thanks. Claire is back from the vet's office; the vet said that the antibiotics should combat any infection that she might have been developing. The vet didn't notice any blood in her cage this morning, so she sent her home. After being home about an hour, she is still bleeding, and it's bright red, so I know it's fresh blood. It's about five or six drops every so often, worse when she moves around. So, it's not bad, but it's not normal either. The appointment with the regular vet is on Thursday; I can't afford another e-vet trip.

Also, are there any tricks to get her milk to dry up more quickly? It can't be very comfortable for her...

I don't know any way for her milk to dry up other than waiting for her body to realize no one is feeding.

and for her.
